No person forfeits their right to life, dignity or their status as a human being because they are alleged to have violated a law. This is a defining feature of our Constitution that sets us apart as a nation of due process and the rule of law. We will not tolerate anyone using allegations related to any person’s nationality or immigration status to violate their inherent human dignity and our Constitution, or to inflict damage on our society. It simply cannot and will not stand.

Home Affairs has processed over 37 000 repatriations since the launch of Cabinet’s comprehensive approach to managing migration. At the new temporary repatriation centre, built at Musina in just 4 days under the IMC, the work continues in a lawful, orderly and dignified manner 🇿🇦

🚨 Big news: for the first time ever, over 1.4 million naturalised citizens and lawful permanent residents are now eligible to obtain Smart IDs and use eHomeAffairs! We’re starting with applicants from visa exempt countries and then expanding to all others. This a major milestone on the digital transformation journey of #TeamHomeAffairs, which continues to deliver and accelerate. It is a victory for social inclusion, as these citizens and lawful residents were previously excluded from the Smart ID and restricted to the vulnerable green ID book. And it is a victory for national security, as it makes our country less reliant on the insecure green ID book. Broadening inclusion, enhancing security, and boldly moving our country into the future: this is the power of digital transformation as Home Affairs works to deliver dignity for all 🇿🇦

Before daybreak this morning, I was on the ground as Operation New Broom swept through Sandton, Johannesburg, arresting dozens of illegal immigrants for deportation. We continue to scale up enforcement, including through the use of drones and biometrics, to restore rule of law 🇿🇦

Operation New Broom again swept through Cape Town, arresting dozens more illegal immigrants. Once deported, they’re also banned from legally reentering South Africa. If you’re here illegally, go home now - before we catch you and similarly ban you from legally entering in future.

Just met the hardest-working group of government officials in South Africa. The backlog project at #TeamHomeAffairs is working night and day to eradicate a backlog of over 306 000 applications dating as far back as 2014. Clearing this backlog securely will inject skills and capital directly into the veins of our economy. It will also lay the foundation for the digital transformation and modernisation of Home Affairs to become an engine of job creation. Our rallying cry is clear: no backlog by Christmas! 🇿🇦

Great to open a new Home Affairs service centre in Melbourne today that will reduce turnaround times for passports and birth certificates from up to 18 months, to just 5 weeks. More locations to follow as we deliver dignity for all South Africans - no matter where they live! 🇿🇦

This morning, #TeamHomeAffairs launched 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 in Cape Town. To restore rule of law, we’re focusing on hotspots across SA to arrest, convict and deport illegal immigrants occupying public spaces. Lawful, intel-led, tech-driven solutions in action! 🇿🇦

Home Affairs has heard the pleas of South Africans living abroad, who have struggled for years to renew their passports and IDs, often waiting 12+ months just to get a new passport. From end July, we’re launching new facilities abroad - with a turnaround time of just 5 weeks. We’re starting in Australia, New Zealand and the UAE this month, followed by France, Germany and The Netherlands later this year, and the USA and Canada in the new year. But even this step is still just an interim solution. Our ultimate aim is to deliver Home Affairs @ home, which will enable every South African - no matter where they are on the planet - to obtain services from their government online 🇿🇦

Starting today, the BMA is surveilling our borderline day and night using advanced drones flying as high as 7 000 meters at over 40km/h, equipped with night-vision, thermal detection and AI, while body cameras clamp down further on corruption. Digital transformation in action! 🇿🇦

Vincent and Emmanuel Tshituka came to SA as child refugees from DRC. Yesterday, I had the honour of watching Vincent make his debut for the Springboks after naturalising them. The latest reminder from our Boks that - no matter our background - we truly are Stronger Together 🇿🇦

Today I was at Beitbridge to inspect the Border Management Authority’s growing enforcement capabilities ahead of the Easter period. With more drones in the sky, boots on the ground, tech in the field, and partnerships in place, we’re building a stronger BMA to better serve SA! 🇿🇦

Home Affairs has delivered a historic victory for the inclusion, equality and dignity of Khoi-San communities, as I today handed over the very first Smart ID containing a traditional Khoi-San name to !Khūboab Lawrence, a first-year student at Stellenbosch. A month ago, I found out that !Khūboab could not get an ID, because outdated systems could not process all the characters used in his name. We immediately got to work on this long-overlooked injustice. Just four weeks later, we have now enabled the use of traditional Khoi-San names on birth certificates, Smart IDs and Passport for the first time in South African history. This is the power of digital transformation to deliver dignity for all! 🇿🇦
