An update. I’ll be in hospital for a few days yet. I require speech & language therapy as well as help with my eyesight which has been affected. I’ll be moved into a specialist ward. Thank you again for all your warm words of support. It’s lovely to know you are thinking of me.

Life for me, is enhanced by playfulness. Luckily, now I’m in my sixties, I feel I have permission to be that rather quirky older bloke. It’s also a way in which I continue to keep myself active, stretch myself and continue to explore the world around me. Here at the top of the island of Oronsay, Loch Bracadale, Skye.

I’m incredibly fortunate to have this seascape a couple of minutes from our front door.

Spectral singing from deep within a cave. An incredible experience to enjoy.

Sound up for this! Probably the deepest cave I’ve explored in my kayak. This can be found on the island of Wiay in Loch Bracadale, the Isle of Skye. The sea conditions were calm with hardly any swell. I explored deeper than I expected and wonder how many other humans have seen the depths of this sea cave before. I didn’t manage to see the end of it and by the sound, it went much further than I reached. I doubt if the conditions will often allow me to explore the depths again. It’s wonderful that this cave is in my kayaking back yard, so to speak.

It was wonderful to be on the sea again today. The first time in many months. It was a glorious day too, although I look rather peely-wally after seven weeks of hospital confinement. My kayak is by the shore once more & I intend to get out much more often. It's good for me. 😊

I went exploring along the craggy coastline by my home and discovered this delightful water feature.

What sea kayakers get up to after a day of paddling in gale force winds! 😊

An ephemeral waterfall rainbow. A mesmeric moment in my kayak.

An update from me. I’m sorry it’s been a long while. Good news though, I’m feeling a lot better.

Always inquisitive! I love paddling into sea caves whenever I come across them. I have this joyful feeling of exploring somewhere few have seen. It’s a visceral experience where the sounds and the atmosphere reverberate through me, always with a wariness and a smidgeon of fear. It’s the unknown. Even if a cave becomes familiar to me. The sea state is rarely the same and the height of the tide determines the nature of the moment. I’ve been paddling for over forty years and I continue to find joy and wonder in these experiences.

Last week I descended into a deep gloom & this weekend was written off because of dreadfully dark emotions & thoughts. I believed I was a waste of space. However, lessons I learned on my journey about my inner tenacity have brought me back into the light. A new week beckons. 😊
