I’m heading to Manchester for the first meeting at Number 10 North. As a Defence Minister I know that defence contributes to our reindustrialisation as a nation and makes us stronger too. As a south west MP I’m excited about a new focus on the regions which will help Plymouth.

DVD26 is a demonstration of next generation capabilities for the British Army. It was good to be at the Millbrook proving grounds to see Challenger 3, Ajax, Boxer, RCH-155 and the M270-A2 side by side - new capabilities that increase the lethality of the British Army.

I attended the first National Economic Council meeting at Number 10 North today with Andy Burnham in the chair. There was real energy in the room about the PM’s reform and devolution agenda. Good that we had three of us from the South west there too.

If the BBC are censoring me for calling out racism and anti semitism then they need to be upfront with the public about that.

Both the Greens and Reform are soft on Putin and soft on NATO. The greens want to pull out of NATO and Reform’s Leader says Putin is the leader he admires the most. Labour takes a different approach: a NATO-first approach, increasing defence spending and renewing our forces.

The Conservatives spent 14 years hollowing out our Armed Forces, including £12 billion of cuts in their first five years alone. Now they've suddenly discovered the importance of investment. We're busy fixing their failures I set the record straight at the Despatch Box yesterday:

Last week I appeared on Politics SW and called out the Reform councillor for Ham on his racist social media posts. The BBC are still refusing to show the full episode on the iPlayer, and on yesterday’s show played this short clip instead.

The Conservatives seem to have a real difficulty understanding National Security. In the Chagos Islands debate, I had to explain the deal 3 times-they’re clearly ignoring plain English As they well know, we never confirm where nuclear weapons are stored. Security must come first.

Australia and the UK have stood together for generations. AUKUS is how we do that for generations to come 🇬🇧🇦🇺

This week I’m in Australia and New Zealand promoting UK businesses and supporting our close allies. It was good to be at CEA with Pat Conroy MP to see their world-class radar the UK is exploring buying for our forces.

The Armed Forces Commissioner Bill is now law. This Labour government is renewing the contract between the nation and those who serve.
