I sometimes get ribbed in DC for talking about sea lions. But as I discussed with folks during a 'Pints with Perez' in Ilwaco this past weekend, it's no joke: at one point scientists counted over 2,300 sea lions just at the mouth of the Cowlitz. I've made strides in DC to protect our salmon and bring some common sense to the overpopulation problem of sea lions.

We've got something good and worth fighting for in Washington's 3rd District. I love calling it home, and I'm honored to represent it in Congress. I've spent years running an auto repair shop with my husband — I'm not a career politician — and every day I'm a tireless advocate for working people and values of this place.

My kid just got his first gusher bloody nose. Thank you Daylight Savings Time for this annual rug pull. And it’s not just about tired kids bumping into shit - research shows car and other accidents spike in the days and weeks following the time change. Nothing personal against Ben Franklin, but it’s TIME to stop changing the clocks twice a year.

From endangered to invasive. In the 1950s, sea lion numbers had dropped to just 7,000 in the Pacific. The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 was designed to fix that, and it worked: today there are over 300,000 in the ocean. But an estimated 6,000 have now moved into the rivers, preying heavily on the salmon that have been a cultural cornerstone to this area for generations. Keith Hyde of Northwest Steelheaders explains what's driving it.

Washington DC is a bigger clunker than even I realized. Everyone there is running around with the check engine light on, but doing nothing about it. I'm doing something about it. I stopped Congress from giving itself a pay raise. I'm fighting to ban members of Congress from trading stocks. And I've never taken a dime of corporate PAC money. If you're tired of Congress getting rich at our expense, share this and help me make them fix things for us.

Dean and I live out here in Skamania County. We run an auto repair shop. We know what it costs to fill a tank, make payroll, and pay for childcare. I don't take corporate PAC money, so I can fight drug and insurance company price gouging instead of answering to them. That's how we bring costs down for WA-03.

Ever wonder why Red Delicious showed up in the cafeteria more than any other apple? It's because USDA's bulk-purchase list for schools left out newer varieties like Cosmic Crisp. My amendment gets USDA buying the newer, better-tasting ones too. Farmers like ApplegirlKait (Kaitlyn Thornton) grow both, from Red Delicious for export to Cosmic Crisp for flavor. Great to chat with Kait about our food system and ag in Washington State.

I talked with Jewel, a Battle Ground trucker about my Stop Scamming Truckers Act. Fraud and scams in CDL licensing is a growing problem nationwide and affects our truckers here in SW Washington. It's hard enough to be an owner/operator and these bad actors are scamming them out of existence. My bill creates a simple fix that makes running these businesses a little easier.

Somebody else, somewhere else, is making the decisions about your life. I'm working to claw some of that power back to regular people and local towns: the right to repair what you own, homes young people can actually afford where they grew up, and a family farm you can pass to your kids.

The House passed a stock trading ban, but it doesn't go far enough.

Congress barely functions these days, but I’ve still been able to move meaningful legislation that will make life better for SW Washington by finding areas where both sides can work together. Whether it’s cutting red tape for childcare providers, making it easier for veterans to use their home loan benefits, or protecting our salmon from invasive sea lions, I’m reflecting the experience of my constituents in Congress. Turns out if you listen to people and stop playing partisan games, you can actually deliver.

Drop off your ballot (and walk your dog)! The primary is on Tuesday. Your vote-by-mail ballot has been sitting in your mailbox since July 17 — dig it out, fill it in, and sign the envelope (same signature as your registration, or it gets rejected). Drop it in any county ballot box by 8pm on August 4th, or mail it back as long as it's postmarked by the 4th. Vote early!

Every housing unit we build lowers the cost of finding a place to live and returns agency to the middle class. In Congress, I’m a cosponsor of the Yes In My Backyard Act (YIMBY) bill, which will prioritize federal dollars for communities that reduce the red tape limiting housing construction. I’m also a champion of getting shop class back in junior high. We’ll fix our housing shortage by reducing red tape, building more housing units, and ensuring young people learn the skills they need to build homes right here in Southwest Washington.

I spoke with Chris Hayes about how we defeated Joe Kent twice. Joe’s welcome to concede twice too.

Dean and I cast our ballots at the Fisher’s Landing ballot box as a literal vote of confidence in the continued integrity and safety of Southwest Washington’s election system. With increased election security presence and diligent work by county election officials, depositing your ballot at a drop box location remains a safe and secure way to vote. If you’ve already cast your ballot, you should check whether it’s been accepted at If you haven't voted yet, now is the time to make a plan and get it done -- return your ballot to a drop box by 8pm Tuesday! 🗣️🇺🇸

🇺🇸🗳️ I’m confident law enforcement will apprehend whoever set fire to the Fisher’s Landing ballot drop box on Monday morning. In the meantime, the people of Southwest Washington will not be deterred from exercising our right to vote. Any voter who returned their ballot to the Fisher’s Landing Transit Center ballot drop box in Vancouver — at any point this weekend — should contact the Elections Division of the Clark County Auditor’s office immediately to request a replacement ballot, due to the arson at the ballot drop box. You can request a replacement ballot by: - Calling the auditor's office at (564) 397-2345 - Emailing [email protected] - Visiting this link:
