Approximately 800 to 900 million litres of water is supplied every single day in the city, Eskom arrears were reduced from R6.66 billion to R4.73 billion by January 2026 and a R4.7 billion VAT liability was settled. R2.42 billion in debt relief was extended to indigent households, with R1.83 billion written off across more than 31 500 inactive accounts. The work is not finished. Charlotte Mannya Maxeke broke barriers in education, organised women to confront injustice and dedicated her life to advancing the dignity of African people. A pioneer political activist, she was sole woman delegate at the founding conference of the ANC in 1912, as well as the founding President of the Bantu Women’s League. Her achievements were historic, but her greatest legacy may be the doors she opened for generations of women who followed. This Women’s Month, we honour yet another South African woman who made the impossible, possible. #WomensMonth #VoteANC26

Johannesburg had the country’s third-largest subnational infrastructure budget, funded largely through its own revenue and surpluses, with only a third coming from national government. Under his leadership, City Power consistently recorded surpluses. He says the city’s revenue and infrastructure spending fell after the DA took office, while City Power and other municipal entities weakened amid coalition instability.
