The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus), has confessed on live TV to being paid "good money" by the owner of Zoomlion Ghana Limited to stop talking about the company's contracts. A-Plus, who recently posted about Zoomlion on Facebook, said the owner called him persistently after his post, and when they finally met, the Zoomlion owner "paid me good money to stop writing about him on social media."

An old student of Tema Senior High School in the Greater Accra Region has confirmed to me that this is the situation in the school. How would students in situations like this turn out if the government pays their school fees but neglects to provide for their teaching and learning needs? The heads of schools are afraid to complain because they fear victimisation from the government. At the end of the day, the government boasts about the numbers that go through secondary school and credits that to the Free SHS policy. But would you like your son or daughter to go through this? This is a school in the Greater Accra Region. Some rural basic and secondary schools are worse than this.

As you listen to these helpless people share their heartbreaking stories, remember that Zoomlion is paid 850 per person a month, but the contract says the company should pay them 250 cedis and keep 600 cedis as management fees. They say this is the 10th month they have not received any payment. And this is the 11th year I have consistently highlighted this thievery and enslavement of our people by the politicians. Not even the leadership of THE CHURCH OF PENTECOST, who are on record to have lobbied politicians to keep Zoomlion's contracts (I have the video evidence), appear to be listening to what their respected elder's business is doing.

THE CHURCH OF PENTECOST, this was your Chairman recommending Zoomlion to "politicians in government and in opposition" at Zoomlion's 10th anniversary programme. The company, owned by an elder of your church, is engaged in many shady deals, including a bribery case in Liberia, for which the World Bank banned Zoomlion. This is why I sometimes tag you in Zoomlion's posts. If you publicly encourage politicians to engage Zoomlion, you should be concerned if the politicians and the company engage in unconscionable practices. I don't think you should see something wrong with the arrangement that says Zoomlion should receive 850 cedis, pay the workers 250 cedis, and keep 600 cedis as management fees. Thank you.
