In September 1997 Mark took part in George Martin's 'Music For Montserrat' benefit concert at London's Royal Albert Hall, where he was joined by the likes of Eric Clapton, Phil Collins (Phil Collins) and @OfficialSting for a special performance of 'Money For Nothing'.

Mark speaking about his experience working with Steely Dan on their Gaucho album during a Channel 4 interview originally titled 'The Other Side of the Tracks', broadcast in April 1984.

Jimmy Nail's 'Big River' was originally released in October 1995 and featured Mark on electric guitar. The track was included on Nail's studio album of the same name, and the lyrics share nostalgia about his father and growing up near the Tyne river in Newcastle.

'Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)' has been synonymous with the Great North Run since the 1990s as its official theme song. This year's coverage was soundtracked by Mark Knopfler's Guitar Heroes special recording of the track. Download it here:

'Sailing To Philadelphia', the title song of Mark’s second solo album, was inspired by the story of the Mason-Dixon Line. For the 250th anniversary of it's creation, Mark presented an episode of BBC Inside Out North East and Cumbria; sharing the story of surveyor Jeremiah Dixon.
