My name is Mary Peltola, and I'm running for U.S. Senate to fight for fish, family, and freedom – and that begins with fixing the rigged system in DC that’s shutting down Alaska. We need systemic change if we're going to fill our homes with abundance again.

Here in Valdez, the price at the pump is $5.25 for gas and $6.75 for diesel. Hardworking Alaskans simply can’t afford the war in Iran jacking up our gas prices - a war that Dan Sullivan has voted for 12 times.

$26.82 a gallon for gas. That’s what some Alaskans are facing right now, and it’s only getting worse. We need a senator solving the problem, not one still voting for a war that keeps driving prices up.

In the Lower 48, fuel prices change weekly. In Alaska, communities off the road system get fuel by barge twice a year, locking in one price for the season. Thanks to the war Dan Sullivan has voted for 14 times, Alaskans are locked into sky-high prices with no relief in sight.

There's only one thing that matters to me: getting the job done for Alaska.

Today I'm in King Cove on the Aleutian Chain, talking with Alaska fishermen whose livelihoods are being wiped out by industrial factory trawlers and corporate greed in DC. They can't afford to wait, and neither can our fisheries. I'm fighting to make DC work for all of Alaska.

I’ve been fishing in Alaska since I was six years old. I became a permit holder after turning 12. I am the only candidate on this stage who is an Alaska fisherman. Fish is in my blood, earned over generations on the water.

The biggest economic issue for commercial fishermen is today’s fuel prices – and Dan Sullivan has voted to raise those prices more than 10 times. The price of gas in Kodiak has skyrocketed 20% since the start of the Iran war.

Out-of-state factory trawlers are decimating our salmon runs and bleeding Alaska fishermen dry. Alaska needs leaders willing to fight back, not ones being bought out by the Lower 48 trawling lobby. We need to ban factory trawling.
