Rob Manfred destroyed baseball in many ways. One was gutting minor league baseball putting many people out of jobs. Back in 1988 the Cubs had four A ball clubs. Now they only have two and the rookie leagues one at the spring training complex and the Dominican Republic. The Appalachian League a great rookie league which helped the local economy was completely wiped out because of Manfred.

Rob Manfred sucks and is destroying baseball. The September call up rule permitted clubs to have up to 40 men on their active roster. That was trimmed to 28. The old rules gives teams a true extended look at players to see if they could play at the MLB level. It was also for fans to enjoy players like Gary Hargis who enters this game as a pinch runner and this is the only MLB game he ever appeared in. Hargis stands as a modern day Moonlight Graham, carving his name in the baseball annals forever in 1979. Moments like this will never happen because of Rob Manfred. Pardon my French fuck you Rob Manfred.

Baseball legends from the Chicago northwest suburbs. Greg Luzinski grew up in Prospect Heights and graduated from Notre Dame High School in nearby Niles. Luzinski made his major league debut at the age of 19 and become an everyday player at the age of 21. Known as "The Bull" Luzinski was a force in the Phillies lineup for several years and ended his career with the White Sox. Here he stars in a classic Lite Beer commercial. When I was young, I had a crush on Kim Richards, who played Ruthie on another McLean Stevenson's failed TV shows. Hello Larry. The show also starred R&B legend Ruth Brown and Meadowlark Lemon. Spot appearances on Diff'rent Strokes could not even save the show. It lasted two seasons, 1979-1980. Here is the theme song and opening credits.

Clips of forgotten Cubs. Catcher Ron Hassey another player acquired in the Rick Sutcliffe trade did not play much because of iron man Jody Davis. Hassey blasts a big home run. Harry goes nuts. The fans go nuts. Hassey makes a curtain call. He was traded to the Yankees after the 1984 season and is one of many players to play with the Cubs and White Sox. Back when Chicagoland was great. Phil's Beach in Wauconda. We used to go there and party all the time growing up in the 1980s. Those were some wild times. Here is the scene from the Blues Brothers driving on Phil's Beach. I knew some of the people who were extras. On another note let's make Illinois great again and flip it red.

It's time to remember former Cubs player Luis Valbuena. Valbuena was killed alongside Jose Castillo, a former MLB player in a 2018 car crash in Venezuela caused by bandits in an attempted robbery. Luis was a solid third baseman with some power. He was a link to the Cubs final piece of the puzzle for the 2016 World Series Champions. He was traded to the Astros for Dexter Fowler. Here is a clip of a Valbuena home run as a member of the Cubs. RIP Luis.

Tommy John is in very bad health. Please pray 🙏 for him. Here is a clip of Tommy John and the Tigers Dick McAuliffe got into a brawl way back in 1968. In my opinion, Tommy John belongs in the Baseball Hall of Fame. He won 164 games after his famous surgery named after him. He also won over 80 games for three different teams, the White Sox, Dodgers, and Yankees.

Clips of forgotten White Sox. Here is 20 year old Larry Monroe facing the late great Lyman Bostock. Bostock was shot and mortally wounded while riding as a passenger in a vehicle in Gary, Indiana while visiting old friends, on September 23, 1978, hours after playing against the Chicago White Sox earlier in the day. He died at 1:30 a.m. the next day.

In junior high, I had a crush on Donna Pescow, who starred with Robert Hays in a great Garry Marshall sitcom Angie. This was the 5th rated show of 1978-79, and then ABC moved it to another time slot, and the show was canceled. Also, the character played by child actress Tammy Lauren just disappeared. Here is the theme song sang by Maureen McGovern, and the opening credits to what I thought was a great show. Enjoy this time capsule.
