Today marks an important turning point for Miami-Dade County and the Everglades. We have officially regained control of the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport property, the former site of "Alligator Alcatraz." From the beginning, I have said this facility should never have been built. Now, we have a real opportunity to turn the page, permanently protect this land, and restore it as part of the greater Everglades ecosystem for generations to come.

A significant milestone for Miami-Dade County! Tuesday, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approved the design contract for the full 5.6-mile Ludlam Trail, advancing this long-envisioned project into its next phase. Once completed, the trail will transform a former rail corridor into a vibrant public space that connects neighborhoods, parks, schools, businesses, and transit while creating new opportunities for walking, bicycling, running, and outdoor recreation. Public design meetings are anticipated later this year, providing residents and stakeholders with the opportunity to help inform the final design of this transformational community asset. Together, we are one step closer to bringing this exciting vision to life for generations to come.
