One of the most famous sequences of the 1962 D-Day film 'The Longest Day' features the church bells of Sainte-Mère-Église in Normandy ringing as paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne descend into the centre of the town. We got to hear them in person a few years ago. (sound on) #Dday

Today in 1975, the last U.S. personnel are evacuated from Saigon. The airlift, dubbed Operation Frequent Wind, sees 7,000 American & Vietnamese civilians pulled out before the capital falls to the communists. It was a sobering conclusion to America's long war in SE Asia.
