We need to protect young people from the relentless barrage of harmful content directed at them by social media platforms. We need to legislate a digital duty of care for social media platforms, including a feature that allows users to permanently opt-out of algorithm-driven recommendations, helping to curb the constant bombardment of extremist and misogynistic content online.

More than 75 submissions to the parliamentary Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters described involvement of members of the Exclusive Brethren in the 2025 election. They came from outside the electorates where they appeared, they moved in groups, they dressed the same, they spoke from the same script, they were booked into the same hotels together, and they had rosters for polling booths. According to the Brethren’s spokesperson, this was a spontaneous gesture of support from Brethren members (who don’t actually vote themselves) for the Liberal Party.

Very pleased to see the government adopt an amendment I put forward to improve protections for small businesses in the proposed tax reforms. In recent weeks I’ve heard from many in our community who support changes to improve housing affordability, but are concerned about what these reforms might mean for small businesses, start-ups, investors, and people with trusts. Next Monday, students across Australia will see their HECS debts rise by over $1 billion because of indexation. They’ve been making repayments all year, but those repayments don’t get credited to their accounts until after indexation is added. The timing’s all wrong. We wouldn’t put up with this in your credit card or home loan - it’s not fair to make graduates put up with it. The cost-of-HECS crisis was created by the Morrison Government has been allowed to continue under the Albanese Government. Substantial reform is well overdue. I won’t stop pushing the government until it is fixed.

Today I moved to suspend standing orders over the government's failure to act on gambling harm. The ask was simple: release the draft gambling laws for public consultation before the laws are passed. The government voted no. And the Coalition? They didn't even show up. More than 3 million Australians continue to be harmed by gambling advertising. Australians deserve better.
