VIOLENCE erupted Wednesday at Mumbwa Town Council as two UPND candidates sought to file nominations for Mumbwa Central. Witnesses said Hamatala, one of two UPND candidates issued adoption certificates, attempted to enter Mumbwa Civic Centre to file his papers while Clarence Chisuku was already inside filing for the same seat. The Electoral Commission of Zambia has not confirmed the UPND candidate for Mumbwa Central. ECZ officials said they are awaiting a confirmation letter from the party’s secretary general on who will represent UPND in the constituency. No injuries were immediately reported. Mumbwa Community Radio reported the incident.

#NEWSUPDATE: Chaos reported in Chavuma as attempt made to block Kayombo Saviye’s nomination filing Chaos erupted in Chavuma on Wednesday as an attempt was made to block UPND candidate Kayombo Saviye from filing his nomination papers. Witnesses said individuals tried to prevent Saviye from accessing the nomination centre where he was seeking to file on the United Party for National Development ticket ahead of the Aug. 13 election. Details of the disruption were not immediately clear. No injuries were immediately reported. Electoral Commission of Zambia and police officials had not commented on the incident as of Wednesday evening.

#Mwebantu, on Thursday afternoon, two vehicles engaged in a high-speed chase, causing damage to multiple tombstones at Kansenshi Cemetery. The incident began when a Ford Ranger pickup, operated by a male driver, struck a Toyota Mark X, driven by a female. The female driver pursued the male driver, who failed to stop, until both vehicles lost control and entered the cemetery.
