🇦🇲🇮🇳According to Armenian and Indian sources, the two countries have reached an agreement under which Armenia will purchase 8–12 Su-30MKI multi-role fighters from India. The contract value will be up to $3 billion and will include pilot and technical-personnel training as well as the supply of necessary combat materiel. Su-30MKI fighters are produced in India under license, with 70–80% of their components — including aerodynamic structures, avionics, and other systems — manufactured domestically in India. Although the fighters use Russian engines, their technical maintenance and assembly can already be carried out in India, and a program is underway to replace the baseline Russian passive radar with Indian-made active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars. In summary: Armenia is seeking to balance Azerbaijan’s acquisition of Pakistan-supplied JF-17 Block III aircraft. At present, the Indian Su-30MKI appears to be the best option for Armenia because these aircraft are already in Indian service and would not require years of waiting (deliveries are planned for 2026–2027).
