Horrific scenes from Al-Mukalla in Hadramout today. The de facto authorities banned a peaceful protest, carried out politically motivated detentions beforehand, and deployed heavily armed security forces to block roads and prevent citizens from gathering. Security forces then used force against unarmed protesters, resulting in deaths, injuries, and dozens of additional detentions. Such repressive actions by the de facto authorities and their backers will not deter our people from exercising their legitimate and peaceful right to express themselves.
