It was the honour of my life to move the Loyal Address -the first Muslim to do so. This moment belongs to the people of Bradford West. Their trust and faith in me made it possible. An opportunity of a lifetime. A privilege I owe to Bradford and to Britain. Full speech 🔽

Nearly 1 in 2 stories about Muslims in UK media contains measurable bias. That’s not journalism - that’s a systemic problem building hatred and division. I welcomed the government’s adoption of a definition of Anti-Muslim Hostility and the announcement of an Independent Adviser, in the same way as there is a non-statutory definition of Antisemitism and an Independent Adviser. I called on the government to take action against those who spread disinformation and conspiracies about Muslim communities

🧵 I’ve spent months scrutinising the Assisted Dying Bill — line by line at committee stage. This bill does not do what it says on the tin. ⚠️ This bill is a danger to public safety. It leaves serious loopholes including for people with Anorexia. Here’s why MPs must vote against it on Friday. 👇 (1)

How can it be that the International Court of Justice is determining a case of Genocide against Israel, our own Foreign Secretary recognises civilian deaths in Gaza are too high and yet, we are still arming Israel. We must immediately suspend all arms exports to Israel.

As a member of the bill committee I shared serious concerns about this bill being unsafe & deeply flawed. The House of Lords will fix it said many, convincing MP’s to let it pass. Well The ‘House of Lords’ didn’t fix it! The Assisted Dying Bill is not safe and remains deeply flawed!

Today, I raised serious concerns about whistleblowing at Bradford NHS Teaching Hospitals Trust with the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, including the landmark decision on whistleblower protection that was issued to Dr Max McLean, the former Chair of the Trust. I look forward to discussing this further in my upcoming meeting with the Health Minister.
