Great interview: Elon Musk gets properly challenged by The Economist. “Do you support the far right?” “Are you anti-Muslim?” “People say that you’re a racist.” Musk: “Secure borders. Safe cities. Ireland’s Childcare Crisis A few facts: Between 2020 and 2025, more than €8 billion was allocated to the Department of Children. Most of this money went towards migrant hotels that operate at 50%+ profit margin. Companies linked to Séamus “Banty” McEnaney and his family have reportedly received more than €300million. Since 2016, Ireland’s last three Ministers for Children have not had children themselves. The Govt promised to reduce full-time childcare fees to approximately €200 per month. Delivering that commitment is estimated to require an additional €300 to €500 million per year. Ireland currently allocates approximately: €1.5 billion a year to childcare Which is half the amount, €3 billion, they allocate to asylum, refugee and Ukrainian-related accommodation and supports Normal people have no idea how badly our finances are being run.

20 years ago, at Irish college, I shared a room for a month with a young Peter O’Mahony. He was psychotically OBSESSED with Rog, Frankie Sheehan, Con & Munster. He was with his friend Barry, who went on to win a Munster championship with Cork. (I was with my pal Tim - we never hit the same sporting heights - but we all got on v well! 😅) Ever since, I’ve followed his career closely. Played against him few times. Different animal. I’ve no trouble saying Peter is hero of mine. A brilliant role model for young fellas….35 and still going strong ! 💪 Simply put… he takes no shit. C’mon Ireland ! 🇮🇪

Is Ireland a Neutral Country? At last year’s Eurovision, the Swiss hosts performed “Made in Switzerland.” The lyrics have stuck with me ever since: “Non-political, strictly neutral. it doesn’t matter if you’re good or brutal.” Whatever you think about Ireland’s Eurovision boycott over Israel, it raises a real question: is Ireland actually neutral, or are we just militarily weak? Our neutrality is vague at best. Its not enshrined in the Constitution. Officially we are just "not militarily aligned". On the other hand, Switzerland is formally recognised as being neutral under the Treaty of Paris and the Congress of Vienna in 1815. Its clearly part of their culture too... they literally don't care who is good or evil. Ireland takes strong moral positions while still insisting we’re neutral. We allow Shannon to be used by the US etc. At some point we have to make a decision. We cannot have it both ways.
