The child’s mother had recently been evicted from her home. She then suddenly relocated to Georgia and abandoned the child without any notice or communication for months. One random day she showed up at the child’s school trying to pick the child up and take them out of state. The father was able to get the child first. The mother and her father then contacted the local police with false allegations that the father had kidnapped the child. At the same time, there was an ongoing DCF investigation led by an investigator who had already observed the filthy conditions the child had been living in and the domestic violence involved. The investigator specifically advised the father not to relinquish the child until further notice. The father communicated this to his attorneys, confirmed everything was proper, and the necessary motions were filed.
