I'm still in disbelief that Bungie pulled this and then proceeded to never have it rain in D2 ever again. Like this is some of the most insane rain vfx I've ever seen and this mission is 9 years old. This had to have costed a ton. Why would you never use it again ever

Came across this old GDC presentation and it's kind of horrifying in retrospect. This segment literally details Bungie iterating the Director into the Portal in D1, realizing it didn't work (for the exact reasons you'd expect), and being forced to backtrack. THIS WAS IN 2013.
