Enter the Ijele... How would I have explained to the European Union that their Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E Gautier Mignot entered the Ijele and vanished without a trace due to not being traditionally ' fortified' to appease the spirits beforehand???. At the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu University Memorial Lecture, part of this year's convocation events, I did not want to panic our distinguished diplomat and keynote Speaker regarding the fact that "Enter the Ijele" is not the same as "Enter the Dragon".....African spirits mean business; they are not subject to the protocols of the Vienna Convention and can evaporate you literally within seconds😅. Obviously he has not been watching our home movies, which is what gave him the dutch courage to Enter the revered ijele Masquerade. "Okwa o ga abanwu Ijele?" ( meaning 'Is he safe to enter this ijele') was the precarious question raised by an Obviously concerned bystander in the background, closely followed by the alarmist answer " Mba nu !", an emphatic No! Meaning he may not emerge to tell the tale🤣. So, here's to H.E Gautier Mignot the first white man to enter the Ijele in Igbariam, and was not supernaturally spirited to the other side, transport fare free. Bravo! Though I noticed his wallet was on his person as he made this dangerous move. I believe he may have appeased the gods in other ways😄😂🤣😅.

It was a warm and emotional welcome when I arrived the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on my first day at work as Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs. Our Permanent Secretary arranged a nice reception... Many thanks, Amb. Ahmed and all our officers and staff at our Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the heads and representatives of agencies superintended by the Ministry, who turned out to receive me. It's now a different office space, but the same familiar officers and staff. I am grateful to my dynamic crew who work so hard to make our tasks purposeful, and our interventions successful; My Director, all the directors, officers and staff as well as our security personnel and our hardworking team at OHMOS ( Office of the Honourable Minister of State) who have now transitioned to the OHMFA (Office of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs). May God bless you all . I remain thankful to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the people of Federal Republic of Nigeria, And God Almighty, the beneficient , whose mercies are unending. They are new every morning....
