Yesterday, the Labour Party campaign charted new waters - literally. We travelled by boat to some of Edo State's riverine communities: Gelegele, Inikorogha, Ofunama, and Ajakurama, where the warmth of the welcome was only matched by the vastness of the waters we crossed. To our brothers and sisters in these riverine communities: Your voices echo in our hearts. Your challenges fuel our mission. Your potential is the bedrock of Edo State's future. Today, like many Edo voters, I carried out my civic duty by casting my vote at my polling unit. My voting experience was pretty smooth, and I hope it's a similar story for other voters across our State. Furthermore, I'm impressed by the resilience of the voters', many of whom braved the rain to participate. As we await results, let's stay alert and engaged. Yesterday marked another significant stride in our campaign as my deputy governorship candidate Yusuf Asamah Kadiri SAN, FCIArb and I, along with our dedicated team, traversed the diverse landscapes of Ovia South West, Ovia North East, and Egor LGAs. Our journey took us through the agrarian heartlands of Ikoha and Adebayo Camp, where we engaged with the backbone of our state's agricultural sector. In Oluku, we connected with the vibrant community, listening to their aspirations and concerns. The youthful energy of Ekosodin, a hub for our student population, reinvigorated our commitment to educational advancement and youth empowerment. Our visit to 19th Street allowed us to engage with urban residents, understanding their unique challenges and visions for Edo's future. These interactions reaffirm our belief that true governance must reach every corner of our state, from bustling urban centres to tranquil rural communities. Today, I had the privilege of joining other members of the Body of Christ to worship at Omega Fire Ministries (OFM). The service, led by Apostle Johnson Suleiman, was truly uplifting. His powerful message on prayer resonated deeply, providing spiritual nourishment and renewed perspective. Truly, there's nothing quite like finding moments of peace and enlightenment in the presence of the Lord. I am grateful to God for the experience in his presence, and I thank Apostle Suleiman and the entire OFM congregation for having me.

Ahead of the commencement of public campaigns by Political Parties on Wednesday 24 April 2024, in line with the Timetable & Schedule of Activities for the Edo State 2024 Governorship Election issued by INEC Nigeria, I took some time off last weekend to refresh, recharge and strategise, with my fantastic team, on the best avenue(s) to convey our vision and our promise to place the people of Edo State at the heart of governance. I am now supercharged and ready to hit the campaign trail on Wednesday albeit, to avoid jumping the gun or running afoul of our electoral laws, all I can say to our supporters and the good people of Edo State, at this time is, get ready!!!

In a desperate attempt to silence our message of hope and positive change, the forces of the old order have resorted to their typical tactic: intimidation and brigandage - vandalising and removing my billboards across Benin City, which I lawfully paid for. In Oredo LGA, two billboards were torn down with threats of more removals. In Ovia North East LGA, two more were destroyed. Ikpoba Okha LGA faces similar threats of censorship. But make no mistake, we will not be cowed by these cowardly tactics. When I embarked on this journey, I was under no illusion about the dark forces we're up against - those invested in preserving the status quo. This is not an attempt to complain or play the victim, but a warning to the petty tyrants and their sponsors enabling this undemocratic conduct and others who may be contemplating this: Steer clear and desist from these contemptible acts. The Labour Party and I will robustly and uncompromisingly defend our constitutional rights. The people of Edo State deserve a campaign of ideas, not the desperate antics of the intolerant few still clinging to power. We will not be deterred from taking our message of real progress and prosperity to every nook and cranny. Our resolve remains unshaken in the face of intimidation. My visit today to the bustling Aduwawa Cattle Market was an eye-opening and deeply nostalgic experience. As I walked through the vibrant livestock trading hub, I was transported back to my days as a Youth Corper in Kano, where I had the privilege of immersing myself in the rich cultural tapestry of the North. Beyond mere nostalgia, this engagement shed light on the invaluable contributions and unique challenges faced by the Arewa community and livestock sellers in Edo State. My profound gratitude goes to the leadership and traders in the market for their warm hospitality and for sharing their experiences with me. As the Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party for the September 21, 2024, Edo State elections, I have been incredibly busy and engaged in the process of taking our message of hope and endless possibilities to the good people of Edo State in all parts of the State. I have, however, decided to take a break today, not to rest, but to devote my attention to another crucial election coming up in a few days, the election of the national officers of our beloved Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2024. I have been inundated with calls and messages from friends and supporters asking about my preferred candidate for the office of President of the NBA in the upcoming elections. As the 30th President of the NBA, I understood and played my part in the fulfilment of the Association’s multifaceted roles: promoting and defending the rule of law, developing the legal profession, and contributing to the vital task of nation-building. In the same vein, I recognise the paramount importance of carefully deciding who leads our Association at this critical time not just for the Association but also for our dear nation, Nigeria. It is this regard, and for the fuller reasons outlined in my message below, that I have no hesitation in endorsing - TOBENNA EROJIKWE, Tobenna Erojikwe as my preferred candidate for election as the 32nd President of the NBA.
