Some of you asked to see what their winter beds look like and their inside den area. Here is a video from a few years ago of Leo preparing his sleep space. Clearly he has ideas about how it should all get prepped for sleep. Bears actually have no trouble with the cold. We struggle way more with keeping them COOL in the summer than warm in the winter. The cold doesn’t impact them much at all!

Leo is a very old man now. He will be 31 years old next month. Sometimes it is too cold for him, but almost every he gets up from his winter bed, and goes out for a walk. #LoveOurLeo

Someone was asking about Jimbo. Jimbo was a kodiak bear who weighed over 1500 pounds and still over 10.5 feet tall. He came to us as a cub and died a few years ago from liver cancer. He lived a long time and had a good life but had been born from captive born parents in a wildlife “park” that went bankrupt. He couldn’t be released and he lived out his life here at the Orphaned Wildlife Center. He was very much loved and being given a cake for his birthday. And yes - that is Leo in this video with him. :)

Last year we thought it would be fun to let the bears play with some kayaks in the water and asked for donations of old used kayaks. Mike and Mary Newell came through for us and we finally got a kayak into the water with Randy! LOVE THIS!

Since you have all been enjoying the Jimbo throwback videos, I came across this one and it was pretty darn cute. Thought I would share it with you. Jimbo was a kodiak bear. He stood ten and a half feet tall and weighed almost 1500 lbs. He was the bestest boy.

One of our followers sent us a bunch of boxes of peanuts for the bears. People are always amazed to watch how delicately the bears shell the peanuts and eat the inside. Thanks David B., the bears enjoyed this!

Susan collecting hair from the bears to be spun into yarn. We would like to take a moment to thank Cari Lynn. For the past two years she has been spinning our bear fur into yarn, so that our friends from Grumpy Goat Fine Yarn in Port Jervis can knit/crochet the yarn into the teddy bears that we auction off every November. Without these ladies, it wouldn’t be possible, and we simply cannot thank them all enough. It is a great deal of work to do what Cari does, and what our knitters/crocheters do, and we are extremely grateful to them all.

We got a BIG donation of marshmallows and peanuts (Thank you Mr. Rajamurthy) and the bears were very appreciative, and enabled us to make this adorable video. (Yes, marshmallows are a favorite treat for them - bears love all things sweet - and of course not part of their daily diet).

After the first thorough inspection by B.I.T (bear investigation team), the Chief BITE (Bear investigative team elder) Randy was called in to complete the report and inquest. We are awaiting the final examination report and will let you know the findings.
