This morning everything changed. Radiation stopped. Tumour too big for the mask and the pain was unbearable. Chemo paused. No CAR T options now, but a new plan is forming with Patrick Soon-Shiong. I’m not done. We fight differently. No Retreat. No Surrender. 💪

Cancer is like the weather—it can change in an instant. My calcium levels have shot up and my markers aren’t good, so I couldn’t receive my Keytruda today. But I still feel strong. Day 5 of my water-only fast, and I’ll keep fighting because storms don’t last forever. 💪❤️

First radiation session done. It was tougher than expected. Because the tumour is growing out of my head, the mask they clamp on felt like a vice. What used to take a minute was ~20 minutes today. But it’s done. 1 down, 33 to go. Step by step we keep fighting. No Retreat. 💪

Yesterday was one of the toughest days. The tumour made the radiation mask unbearable and I lay there with tears in my eyes wondering how I’d get through 30+ sessions. Solution found: morphine to manage the pain. 34 sessions. One at a time. No Retreat. No Surrender. #Cancer

My first tiny step up dose of Talvey flattened me. I developed cytokine release syndrome overnight and was rushed to hospital. Huge thanks to good Samaritan Wayne Roffey, who collected my lifesaving Talvey in JHB and drove it to Cape Town Airport. Next dose Saturday. 🤞🏻

A fun long weekend ended on a downer. I arrived for platelets this morning with dangerously low BP of 81/45, yet I still feel fine, just low on power. I’m postponing China to start Talvey in hospital and fight these myeloma numbers. No Retreat. No Surrender. ❤️

Going under GA tomorrow and yes my face will change a bit. Numbers are down, spirits are up. That’s cancer for you. The growth on my forehead has caused unbearable pain. Grateful to Dr Willem Erasmus for taking it out once and for all. One day at a time. #NoRetreatNoSurrender

9 months on and my peri-anal abscess is still healing, but progress is progress. My eye is feeling the effects of radiation ☢️, yet the skin cancer appears to be under control. Encouraging news. Off to Durban for some sunshine, warmer weather and hopefully a little golf. ⛳

By all accounts, today’s operation was a great success Dr Willem took a big margin but left it open result: my face looks normal, which I’m hugely grateful for. Back on 16 Feb to sew it up. Incredible care from the anaesthetist,nurses @thecosmeticsurgeryinstitute, pain free

I got through my first radiation today. 143 breaths. 12 minutes. Small signs the tumour may be shrinking. I believe fasting, hyperbaric and stopping chemo helped. Even played 9 holes. Time to turn the corner and force it. Still fighting, still positive but not convinced about ☢️

Easter weekend is over and unfortunately the pain is back. The Pseudomonas bacteria has returned too, which means I’m back on antibiotics. Not easy days, but I’ll keep pushing through. One day at a time. No Retreat. No Surrender. 💪

3 days no updates… life has been tough. 7kg down, day 4 of a water fast. Not easy, but deliberate. Started at Wings Hyperbaric Chamber which is giving me a lift as radiation ☢️ begins again today. Still walking. Still training. Still showing up.

Last week I lost two close cancer warrior friends, Nicky McKenzie and Greg Blank. It’s a reminder how brutal and unpredictable this journey really is. Today I endured another radiation ☢️ session. Hard physically and mentally… but I keep fighting, also on their behalf.

Back in the water at Virgin Active Gateway 🏊‍♂️. Swam 400-500m while monitoring my HR with Form Goggles and Garmin . With cancer, keeping my heart rate under control is important. Durban has delivered the sunshine ☀️ and reminded me how much weather matters for outdoor sport.

Did 400m of slow swimming today and my cancer tumour literally started falling apart 😳😂 Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing… so don’t zoom in if you’re squeamish 🤣 Also did a few sauna exercises at the newly revamped Virgin Active which is very impressive.
