There IS an intentional effort to dumb down the education system because kids who aren't challenged grow into adults that are easy to manipulate and control. The evidence is there. Young people in particular are accepting of some of the most evil, destructive ideas known to humankind - and the only way to achieve that is to filter their "education" through an oppressor vs oppressive lens, and then train them to believe that anyone or anything that challenges their worldview is not only dangerous, those ideas and the people who believe them must be eliminated. This is intentional.

The literacy crisis isn’t simply about whether someone can read the words on a page. A huge part of literacy is comprehension: being able to absorb information, understand what it actually means, distinguish evidence from interpretation, and draw reasonable conclusions from it. You can technically know how to read and still have terrible reading comprehension and critical-reasoning skills. And when someone can hear testimony, read evidence, understand the individual words being presented - and somehow repeatedly walk away with conclusions that the information itself doesn’t reasonably support - THAT is the problem we should be talking about. Functional and critical illiteracy are at the root of so many of our societal problems - and, ironically, those who paid the most for their “education” seem to struggle with these skills the most. A degree indicates that you went to school - but it doesn't mean you learned how to think.
