‘I was screaming’: Scientists shocked as dolphins filmed using shells to trap prey for the first time | New York Post Researchers are shell-shocked at the latest marine discovery. Dolphins have been filmed using shells to ensnare their prey off the coast of Australia, marking the first time this clever tactic has been caught on camera, per a bombshell paper in Marine Mammal Science. “The second I saw that shell in the air, I immediately knew what was happening,” the study’s head author, Alexis Levengood, a marine mammal biologist at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, told ScienceAlert. Levengood said she and her team were on a research vessel off Hervey Bay when they spotted a female Pacific bottlenose “dolphin raising something large out of the water,” the BBC reported. She instantly recognized the behavior as “shelling,” when dolphins flush prey into a large empty seasnail shell. Then, the impromptu fish trap to the surface and drains the quarry into their mouths like a fishy oyster shooter. In the dramatic clip captured in 2025, the brainy cetacean can be seen holding a shell aloft, and then dropping it in the water, before snatching up a fish that escaped its calcified prison. “I was screaming to the students that were on the boat with me in excitement, because I was just so excited that we were actually witnessing this here on the east coast,” exclaimed Levengood. While the behavior had been observed in 2013 in Shark Bay, Western Australia, this was the first video evidence of the ingenious prey-snatching method. And this wasn’t some fleeting party trick, either. In another clip from Hervey Bay, a mother and a calf could be seen shelling together, demonstrating that the behavior is passed down from generation to generation and not between peers as previously believed. “We saw the mother surface with a shell, the fish inside escaped and the dolphin dropped the shell to chase the fish,” said Levengood. “Then, minutes afterwards, the dolphin calf picked up the shell and held it the same way as its mother.” While it’s yet unclear if either was successful in their trapping efforts, the scientist said the “footage provides the first potential evidence of maternal social transmission — a process by which offspring learn behavior by observing the actions of their mother.” When coupled with the observations from 2013, this eye-opening footage demonstrates how populations of dolphins learned to use tools in the exact same manner despite being thousands of miles apart. “They may have both invented this or innovated this independently of one another, or it’s even possible that there might be some populations up north that are doing this that we don’t even know about yet,” Levengood told Science Alert. She concluded that either way, “these findings highlight just how smart, clever, and innovative dolphins are.” On a larger scale, shelling could also help shed light on how humans evolved to use tools as well. “But better understanding of shelling and other tool use in non-human animals will continue to teach us more about ourselves and how and why we evolved the way we did,” said Levengood.

NASA's 'quiet' supersonic jet completes first flight in potential breakthrough for commercial air travel | Morgan Phillips, Fox News X-59 aircraft designed to reduce sonic boom to a 'thump' could revolutionize commercial aviation A new "quiet" supersonic X-59 jet designed to revolutionize air travel successfully completed its first test flight, Lockheed Martin announced this week. The sleek, needle-point aircraft built for NASA is designed to break the sound barrier while reducing the sonic boom to a "thump," according to the aerospace contractor. The aircraft aims to overcome one of the major hurdles to supersonic travel, which is noise restrictions over land. The plane took off from Palmdale, Calif., at Skunk Works' facility at U.S. Air Force Plant 42, accompanied by a NASA chase plane. It landed safely about an hour later at NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center. The plane’s unique shape is designed to greatly lower the volume of the sonic boom typically produced when a plane breaks the sound barrier. This work sustains America's place as the leader in aviation and has the potential to change the way the public flies," said Sean Duffy, acting NASA administrator. The supersonic Concorde aircraft, developed by France and the U.K., began transatlantic flights in 1976, reached max speeds of over 1,300 mph and flew passengers from New York to London in just 3.5 hours. But high operating costs meant ticket costs were about four times higher than a standard first-class ticket, and the supersonic boom meant the plane could only fly at such high speeds over water. A crash in 2000 deeply affected public confidence in the plane, and it was retired in 2003. NASA plans to fly the X-59 over several U.S. cities in the coming years, gathering public feedback that could help regulators update decades-old bans on supersonic flight over land. Legacy Media Once Again Flails With 'Fake News' on Trump Planning to Name WH Ballroom After Himself | Becca Lower, RedState When I first read this legacy media story about the ballroom being built at the White House on Friday evening, my first reaction was: "so, what?" I'll get to that in a minute. Incredible that this is still a story, but this is what the legacy media has devolved into. Little more than a weekly rag-level of reporting. The fact that Democrats have previously done extensive construction on the WH has barely fazed them. Notice how little interest they have shown for actual news about the renovation. I first wrote on the ballroom story in Aug., when President Trump took a stroll on the roof with the architect: On Friday, we learned in a piece by my colleague Brandon Morse that the WH shared a list of the donors who are paying for the massive ballroom addition. Here's the latest example of the old media forces of Fourth Estate continuing to underwhelm with their lack of professionalism. They just keep flailing. ABC News blasted out a headline on social media based on unnamed quislings in the White House on Friday: "Trump likely to name White House ballroom after himself, officials say." Luckily, the internet is forever: But once Trump got wind of the alleged report during a media gaggle, he swiftly shot it down as "fake news." I know you're shocked that this is contrary to what you can read from ABC News below: Earlier, senior administration officials told ABC News that some in the administration were already referring to it as "The President Donald J. Trump Ballroom" and that that name was likely to stick. The White House claims they have released the full list of donors to the project. On a list of those donors, provided to ABC News by the White House, the ballroom is referred to as “the President Donald J. Trump Ballroom.” "Well, we raised a lot. We've raised over $350 million, [the ballroom is] a beautiful room, a big room," the president said, then paused a beat as if considering his next words carefully, in answer to the reporter's question on reports he plans to name the ballroom after himself. "I don't have any plan to call it after myself, that was fake news," Trump said. "Probably going to call it the Presidential Ballroom...we haven't really thought about a name yet." Someone asked Trump as a follow-up what might be done with the extra $50 million, and he explained "it could possibly be used to help build a large triumphal arch -- modeled on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris -- that Trump has proposed constructing just outside Washington." Sure, that's as good of a use as any. But, this is minutiae. Here's the correct answer, Republicans: tell them it's none of their business! They're well aware this isn't being financed by public money. It has to be asked again why this is day four or five of this nothing burger story. Palace whispers picked up in echoing hallways of the People's House by liberal hacks, and viewing one internal document - with a nickname "DJT Ballroom" - does not make something true. At a moment when some Americans are worrying about when/if they'll get their next paycheck to pay their mortgage or buy groceries - c'mon, just this once, guys - do your jobs.

On Sunday, Brennan lectured the brilliant Dr. Mehmut Oz, the current administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), that the COVID vaccines were NOT forced on American children. This proves she has no respect for the American public to push such trash on her audience. Here is Margaret Brennan with Dr. Oz on Sunday: Dr. Mehmut Oz: “The question again, this comes back to a much more fundamental issue, Margaret. Do parents have the right to ask questions? We already experienced what happened during COVID when we took away that right from parents. They were forced to give their kids COVID vaccines. Margaret Brennan: (interrupting) They were not forced to give their kids vaccines… Dr. Mehmut Oz: Well, they were pushed hard and oftentimes hindered from doing what they wanted to do, like going out socially if their kids were not included in these programs… Margaret Brennan: (interrupting) No, of course it’s not up to the state. Dr. Mehmut Oz: It’s not up to the federal government. It’s up to the states. States do this. The request of the president is to make sure that states offer parents either eligibility because of religious beliefs or other reasons why they may not want to have their kids take all the vaccines in order. Let’s pick a specific example. Hepatitis B. Hepatitis B vaccine I happen to like. I got the hepatitis B vaccine, but it helps adults avoiding issues if they’re involved. For example, in my case as a doctor, if I were to hit myself with a needle with a patient, but it usually is for drug abusers and for people who are involved in — or infants who could be exposed by a caregiver, by someone in their house, by parent unwittingly, which is why it is provided extraordinarily. Dr. Oz is so exceptional. We are so fortunate to have him lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services today. You’ve got— given away guns. You’re giving away these things. Why can’t you increase vaccinations? You yourself at your press conference this week encouraged parents to vaccinate their children. California’s governor’s mandating. Kids 12 to 17 get a vaccine to go into the schoolroom after around January. Are you going to mandate it for school kids as well? Jim Justice: No chance.
