He said Islamic State and al-Qaeda still direct and inspire attacks, MI5 is still responding to attempted mass-casualty plots in the UK, and terrorists have been caught trying to use AI and drones to plan attacks. MI5 now says its terrorism and state-threat work are of equal scale. Ministers should fund it to match and treat Islamist extremism with the seriousness this warning demands.
