Well, there you have it. On the same day Mayor Johnson agrees not to veto a budget that secures a CTU contract bailout, he returns to signing off on meaningless executive orders in a flimsy attempt to reassert himself as politically relevant. Johnson’s latest gambit limits CPD “Overtime Spending”. More theatrics, the Mayor’s Office already exercises complete control over CPD Overtime Spending. Johnson obviously took the step not only create the impression he is taking action to control spending, but also for the purpose of appeasing his core supporters, the defund-the-police bloc. Remember, CPD Overtime Spending is $150 -200 million higher annually than in 2019 because Chicago has over 1,700 fewer cops. Johnson himself eliminated 833 CPD officer positions. The consequences of CPD shortages are significant: Even with higher Overtime Spending, police officer shortages have led to half of high-priority 911 calls with no police car available to respond and record low arrest rates. Yet, Johnson continues to insist public safety is his “number on priority.”

Eileen O'Neill Burke today after a Chicago cop was killed by a man on EM with four pending violent felonies: "Electronic Monitoring system is broken. It does not work. It does not keep people safe." SA O'Neill Burke gets it. This is why crime has dropped 22 percent in Chicago. Until the EM program is dismantled and progressives are removed from the bench, residents of Chicago will continue to be at the mercy of violent criminals.

It’s now open season on Chicago Police. A driver ramming into 5 police officers is a direct result of a decade long, scorched-earth, no-holds-barred war of resistance against CPD. This war against police — the purpose of which is to undermine police authority and the rule of law — has been waged by progressive lawmakers, community groups, and the CTU. A campaign of hate against CPD, the result is police have now been backed into a corner by this backlash, and officers have been subject to a dramatic increase in attacks. By stoking baseless and ridiculous fears of police with incendiary comments, the CTU, progressive aldermen, and community groups have created an atmosphere in which people believe it is possible to attack CPD with impunity. It is time for the race hucksters and their political enablers such as Mayor Johnson, Stacy Davis Gates, progressive lawmakers and community groups to stop the campaign of incitement against the police.

During press availability, Mayor Johnson took the opportunity to bash critics of his “Head Tax.” When explaining critics messaging on his “Head Tax,” the mayor repeatedly claimed it was misleading and graded it a “F minus.” Let’s be clear. The Mayor is lying. The Head Tax, the 14% tax on commuter usage and the 20 other tax and fee increases are NOT tied to income or wealth. The guy who bragged about refusing to assign grades to students as a CPS teacher is now giving failing grades to his opponents for telling the truth. Mayor Johnson has earned his “F minus” for lying.

You don’t have to support the White House’s policies to recognize Mayor Johnson and Stacy Davis Gates are desperate to create fear and panic among school children and their families with tall tales of imminent ICE raids. Their latest effort was a press conference claiming ICE used tear gas “near a school.” Neither seems alarmed that WGN reported Chicago leads the nation with 3,000 shot “near schools” last year. Chicago leads nation with 182 school age students 17 years and younger murdered or wounded this year. No mention of this grisly statistic by the mayor or Davis Gates, let alone a press conference. Student safety has never been a priority of either Johnson or CTU leaders. Recall both used COVID as an excuse to shutter schools for 78 weeks in defiance of the science. The last year before schools reopened, 447 children were murdered or wounded. Not a peep about that.

Taking down ShotSpotter has cost lives. Since ShotSpotter’s contract expired, CWB Chicago has identified 80 shooting victims who received delayed emergency responses because no one reported the gunfire or the location was unclear. Johnson falsely claimed ShotSpotter was costly and didn’t save lives. While 25% of gunshot victims die citywide, 58% of those who received delayed assistance die. Meanwhile, the city spends three times the amount of money annually on the mayor’s 150-officer security detail as it spent on ShotSpotter. As he congratulates himself on lower crime rates, Johnson gives virtually no credit to CPD or Supt. Snelling. He also never mentions State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke, who is most responsible for the 22% drop in violent crime by reversing Kim Foxx’s “catch and release” policies.

In the latest example of biased reporting, WTTW relied on a flawed study from UChicago Justice Project that claims crime dropping in neighborhoods once served by ShotSpotter justifies Mayor Brandon Johnson decommissioning the system. This is abominable reporting. ShotSpotter reduces police response to a shooting incident. The technology never claimed to reduce crime. Since the end of ShotSpotter, CWB Chicago reports 54 people have been shot for which there was a delayed police response. This misleading story follows another from WTTW in June that said CPD shootings in the first 5 months of 2025 had already matched 2024 numbers. WTTW deliberately ignored that even those numbers remain dramatically lower than previous decades. WTTW failed to mention that while police shootings have plummeted in the last decade, the number of incidents that CPD are shot at by armed offenders — 330 instances, leaving 38 wounded, and 6 killed — has surged dramatically. These numbers suggest unprecedented police restraint. These statistics don’t fit WTTW’s anti-cop narrative.

Brandon Johnson’s great betrayal. Having clearly prioritized support for illegal migrants over the needs of his Black supporters, Mayor Johnson is working assiduously to win back support among Black voters by equating immigration enforcement to the treatment of slaves. It’s a desperate gambit. Johnson’s latest stunt to regain the trust of Black voters was deflecting the cost the city has incurred on illegal migrants by labeling the term “illegal aliens” racist, and drawing a parallel to slavery. Last week, Johnson likened enforcement of immigration laws with the breakup of families during slavery. Johnson has been a party to the displacement of Black residents with illegal migrants. While high crime, the absence of school choice and few economic opportunities are driving the biggest Black resident exodus from any US city, these departed residents in Chicago are being replaced with Sanctuary City subsidized migrants. To date, Chicago has spent $600 million on direct migrant support, and an estimated $400 million more for migrants’ schooling. Meanwhile, Johnson’s promised investment in the decaying South and West Sides is a mirage.

On CNN, when asked to justify his massive spending on illegal migrants amid Chicago’s multiple financial crises, Mayor Brandon Johnson ignored the question and accused Trump of wanting to “eliminate Black existence from this country.” Johnson spent nearly $1 billion in tax dollars on migrants while doing virtually nothing for city residents other than to raise their taxes, fees and fines. Johnson’s so-called “investing in people” is hollow rhetoric. For example: Johnson assertion on new affordable housing is a blatant lie and he has re-opened only 3 of the 12 mental health centers closed under Emanuel. Johnson’s racist rhetoric like his $5 million in “reparations grants” is a desperate and insulting attempt to regain Black support. Meanwhile the state and city combined have provided almost $3 billion illegal migrants.
