🎰 The Man Who Lost $350,000,000 in Vegas Terry Watanabe’s dad arrived in America from Japan with next to nothing. Built a party supplies business in Omaha. Terry took it over at 20 and spent 25 years turning it into a $500 million empire. Then he sold it in 2000 and had more money than he knew what to do with. Then he found Vegas. In 2007 alone he put $825 million through the tables at Caesars Palace. Lost $350 million over the course of his time there. At his peak he was burning through $5 million a day. He was 5.6% of Caesars Palace’s entire annual Las Vegas revenue. What nobody knew at the time, including Terry himself, was that he had undiagnosed bipolar disorder. He later claimed the casino was giving him prescription painkillers he had no prescription for. Keeping him sedated and keeping him at the table. The Nevada Gaming Commission eventually fined Caesars for letting him gamble while visibly out of it. His sister flew out one Thanksgiving, took one look at him, and brought him home. Criminal charges followed. Rehab. Years of legal battles. He settled. Terms were never made public. He now lives on Social Security, and recently had to crowdfund his cancer treatment.
