We’ve recently planted hundreds of native trees along the phase two beach as the first step towards creating its beach boulevard. The trees include dhiggaa, funa, kaani, hirundhu, midhili and kinbi, species that belong to our environment and will one day provide much needed shade and greenery. These trees should have been planted 13 years ago when the land was first reclaimed. But the next best time is now. Over the coming months, I want to dedicate most of my time to developing these public spaces for the hundreds of thousands of people who will soon call phase two home. As high density residential towers rise across the area, these parks and beachfront spaces will become places where people can breathe, relax, slow down, spend time with family and friends and take a break from the mental toll of dense urban living. #WithHDC

I don’t understand why the PM of Mauritius is celebrating the judgement of ITLOS today claiming that it gave them an extra EEZ area of 45,331 sq km, given the fact that our government and the “media” outlets on their payroll is also proudly celebrating a huge victory over Mauritius on the same ground. Maybe it’s first time ever in history where two disputed parties walked out of a tribunal as winners. “Aujourd'hui, nous célébrons le jugement de la Chambre spéciale du Tribunal international du droit de la mer sur la délimitation de la frontière maritime entre Maurice et les Maldives. La Chambre spéciale a établi une ligne de démarcation entre les Maldives et Maurice qui nous donne juridiction sur la mer en tant que zone économique exclusive sur une superficie de 45,331 km2” - Mauritius PM. Translation: “Today we celebrate the judgment of the Special Chamber of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea on the delimitation of the maritime boundary between Mauritius and the Maldives. The Special Chamber has established a demarcation line between the Maldives and Mauritius which gives us jurisdiction over the sea as an exclusive economic zone over an area of 45,331 km2”

This was the first time in Maldivian history that youngsters organized a protest and took to the streets. It was in response to the child rape cases. Rape symphathizer Ibrahim Mohamed Solih couldn’t tolerate it, he sent police special forces to beat them up and pepper-sprayed underage teens who participated in the protest.
