Two Suspects Shot After Attempted Armed Robbery of Undercover ATF Agents Country Club Hills, Illinois — On June 9, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a Chicago Police Department officer assigned to a federal task force assisted Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents in a firearms trafficking operation near the 18800 block of Loretto Lane. Several individuals approached a vehicle occupied by ATF agents and attempted an armed robbery. An ATF agent discharged a firearm from inside the vehicle and struck one individual. The CPD officer observed the events, pursued another individual in an unmarked vehicle, and both exited their vehicles. The officer then discharged a firearm, striking that individual. Three weapons were recovered at the scene. The two individuals struck by gunfire, identified as Amir Fagan, 19, of Harvey, and Demond Edwards, 18, of Markham, were transported to area hospitals in critical condition that later stabilized. An officer was taken to a hospital in good condition. Chashonn Toney, 18, of Robbins, was identified as the driver of a vehicle that struck an ATF vehicle while fleeing. Tevin Curlee, 29, of Country Club Hills, faced separate federal charges for unlawfully possessing and transferring a machine gun related to a June 3 transaction in Crestwood. Five individuals were taken into custody. Federal charges of attempted robbery against Fagan and Edwards, and assaulting a federal officer against Toney, were filed June 11 and dismissed without prejudice on June 19 after video evidence was found inconsistent with portions of the supporting affidavit. Pasadena Officer Shot by Fellow Officer During "Horseplay," Chief Says PASADENA, Calif. — The Pasadena Police Department has released a Critical Incident Video concerning an officer-involved shooting that occurred on September 7, 2025, inside the department's parking structure at 240 Ramona Street in Pasadena. The incident resulted in injuries to one Pasadena police officer, who has since recovered. Pasadena Police Chief Gene Harris said the incident involved "unsafe, out-of-policy horseplay involving loaded firearms" between department personnel. Chief Harris stated that one officer was wounded as a result of the shooting and emphasized that the conduct depicted in the video did not reflect the department's standards or expectations. The injured officer was transported for medical treatment and has since recovered from the injuries sustained during the incident. Pasadena police have not publicly identified the officers involved, and no members of the public were injured. Man Killed After Assaulting Father with Baseball Bat in Meriden; Suspect Shot by Police Meriden, Connecticut — On July 19, 2026, Meriden Police Department officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a domestic violence incident involving a weapon. Officer Anthony Offiaeli was the first to arrive. He observed 38-year-old Robert Lee Jenkins III striking 69-year-old Robert Jenkins Jr. in the head with a baseball bat while the victim lay motionless on the front lawn. The officer issued multiple commands for Jenkins III to drop the bat. Jenkins III did not comply and continued the assault, striking the victim at least eight times. Officer Offiaeli then discharged his service firearm multiple times. Several rounds struck Jenkins III, who dropped the bat and fell to the ground. Jenkins Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Jenkins III received medical attention at the scene and was transported to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:30 p.m. Autopsies were performed on July 20 by Chief Medical Examiner James R. Gill, M.D. The cause of death for Robert Jenkins Jr. was blunt force head injuries, ruled a homicide. RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Police said a 31-year-old woman was fatally shot by an officer on May 7, 2026, after officers responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex on Midlothian Turnpike. According to Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards, officers were dispatched at approximately 6:47 p.m. after a man called 911 reporting he heard a gunshot inside an apartment where Jazmin Wooten-Mitchell was located. During the call, people could reportedly be heard attempting to get her to open the door while the caller told dispatchers they believed she had been shot and they could not get inside. Police said a second 911 call was received while officers were en route, reporting that a woman was outside the apartment building firing a gun. When officers arrived, witnesses directed them toward an upstairs area of the complex as residents were seen running from the scene. Investigators said Wooten-Mitchell fired toward an apartment and in the direction of the stairwell as officers approached. One officer then discharged his weapon, striking her. Officers recovered a handgun near Wooten-Mitchell and attempted medical aid, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers or residents were reported injured. Family members and local media identified Wooten-Mitchell as the mother of two children, including a 6-month-old son and a daughter who recently turned 11. Relatives told reporters she had recently experienced the death of one child’s father prior to the incident. Suspect Fatally Shot After Pointing Gun at Austin Police During Foot Pursuit Austin, Texas — July 11, 2026 — Officers were dispatched at 8:13 a.m. to the area of West 5th Street and North Lamar Boulevard after multiple 9-1-1 callers reported a White male riding an electric scooter who was chasing runners and threatening them with a handgun. Witnesses told investigators the confrontation began after a runner asked the man to slow down while riding on the sidewalk. Police said the suspect used slurs during a verbal dispute, struck a female victim, then displayed a handgun, pointed it at several people, threatened to shoot them, and fled on the scooter. Officers arrived at 8:15 a.m., interviewed witnesses, reviewed surveillance video, and searched the area. At 10:23 a.m., officers located a scooter believed to belong to the suspect near 1100 West Cesar Chavez Street. At 11:07 a.m., officers found a man matching the description near the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail. Police identified him as Emmanuel Diaz, 29. APD said Diaz attempted to leave on the scooter, then fled on foot after officers ordered him to stop. During the pursuit, officers observed Diaz carrying a handgun and ordered him to drop it. Diaz fell to the ground and pointed the firearm at officers. At 11:08 a.m., Officer Collins and Officer Johns fired their weapons, striking Diaz. Deputy Killed After Suspect Seized Detective's Weapon Plaquemine, Louisiana — October 6, 2025 — Shortly after 8:00 p.m., a shooting occurred inside the Iberville Parish Courthouse at 58050 Meriam Street during an interview related to a sex crimes investigation. Louisiana State Police reported that 27-year-old Latrell Mikal Ornee Clark of White Castle was being questioned by Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office Capt. Brett Stassi Jr. At the end of the interview, Clark was told he was under arrest on four counts of first-degree rape of a victim under 13. He resisted, attempted to disarm the detective, and a struggle ensued. Multiple shots were fired. Deputy Charles Riley, 33, responded to assist and was struck. Stassi Jr. was also struck. All three were taken to a hospital. Riley died from his injuries. Stassi Jr. survived critical injuries. Clark died. A completed Louisiana State Police investigative report concluded that Clark gained control of Stassi Jr.’s service weapon during the struggle, fired the shots that struck Riley and Stassi Jr., and then died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. All recovered spent cartridge cases and bullets matched that firearm. Louisiana State Police led the investigation with assistance from the FBI. No criminal charges were filed against any deputies because Clark died. Civil lawsuits have been filed by Riley’s widow against the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Brett Stassi, and Capt. Brett Stassi Jr., alleging negligence in procedures. Criminal History: Court and arrest records show Clark had prior arrests in East Baton Rouge Parish beginning in 2015 for contributing to the delinquency of minors and marijuana possession (dismissed in 2017); vehicle theft-related charges in 2020 and 2021 (one resulting in probation on a reduced charge); a December 2024 arrest for aggravated criminal damage to property, simple criminal damage to property, illegal use of weapons, and battery of a dating partner; a June 2025 domestic abuse battery charge; and a September 2025 Iberville Parish arrest for illegal use of weapons and criminal damage to property. Two Arrested After Motorcyclist Stabbed During Southington Rideout Plantsville, Connecticut — On July 20, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Southington Police Department responded to the area of 503 Main Street after multiple 911 calls reported a large group on bicycles, e-bikes, and mopeds participating in a rideout. Callers stated the group was obstructing traffic and creating disturbances. Officers then received reports of a motorcyclist being assaulted. Police determined that a 58-year-old motorcyclist became surrounded by group members and stopped in the roadway. His cellular phone was taken, and multiple individuals assaulted him. One assailant repeatedly stabbed the victim in the back with a screwdriver. The victim was transported to an area hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Officers arrested 20-year-old Kevin Manuel Rodriguez of Waterbury and a 13-year-old juvenile of Cheshire. Rodriguez faces charges of criminal attempt to commit assault in the first degree, conspiracy to commit assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree, conspiracy to commit robbery in the first degree, riot in the second degree, unlawful assembly, threatening in the second degree, and breach of peace in the second degree. Hillsborough Deputies Ambushed on Domestic Violence Call in Ruskin; Two Shot, Suspect Killed Ruskin, Florida – On July 16, 2026, at 9:52 a.m., Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence after a woman reported that her ex-boyfriend, Christopher Dmuchowski, 34, had held her at gunpoint overnight. The woman had escaped and contacted the sheriff’s office District Four office earlier that morning to request a restraining order. Deputies, aware Dmuchowski was armed and alone, deployed a drone to monitor the scene. Footage showed him exiting the apartment and approaching a parked vehicle. Deputy Sopharmony Muon, 33, arrived first. Dmuchowski opened fire through the patrol car door, striking Muon in the face. Seconds later, Deputy Colton Daniels arrived and was shot in the neck while still inside his vehicle. 3-Year-Old Boy Shot by Police During Princeton Hostage Standoff Princeton, Illinois – May 10, 2026 — A 3-year-old boy was killed during an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning after law enforcement responded to a reported domestic hostage situation at a residence in the 2700 block of East Street in Princeton, Illinois. According to the Illinois State Police, deputies with the Bureau County Sheriff's Office and officers from the Princeton Police Department responded to reports that an armed man was holding several people, including children, hostage inside the home. Illinois State Police troopers assisted by securing the area around the residence. Investigators said responding officers learned the suspect was armed with a knife and had barricaded himself inside a room with multiple hostages. After officers entered the residence, an exchange of gunfire occurred. During the incident, the suspect and a 3-year-old boy, later identified as Damian Camacho, were struck by police gunfire. Troopers immediately rendered medical aid and transported the child to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect was also struck and taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities identified the suspect as Anthony Daniel Rodriguez, 42. Court records allege Rodriguez held a woman and two children against their will while threatening them with a knife. Prosecutors also allege officers attempted to resolve the situation and deployed less-lethal force before entering the room where the hostages were being held. Rodriguez was subsequently charged with three counts of aggravated unlawful restraint, three counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of domestic battery. A judge ordered him held pending further court proceedings. Newly Released Body-Cam Footage Shows Moments Before Officer Ella French Was Killed During Chicago Traffic Stop Shop here: CHICAGO, Ill. – On the evening of Aug. 7, 2021, at about 9:06 p.m., Chicago Police Officer Ella French, 29, was fatally shot during a traffic stop in the city’s West Englewood neighborhood. Officers French and partners Carlos Yanez Jr., 39, and Joshua Blas, 37, had pulled over an SUV at 63rd Street and Bell Avenue. The vehicle was driven by 22-year-old Eric Morgan, with his brother, 21-year-old Emonte “Monty” Morgan, in the back seat and an unidentified woman in front. According to investigators, Emonte Morgan, armed with a .22-caliber pistol, opened fire on the officers as French approached the vehicle. The officers returned fire. Officer Blas wounded Emonte Morgan, who was treated at an Oak Lawn hospital; French was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center and pronounced dead; Yanez was critically wounded but survived after surgery, losing his right eye. Eric Morgan fled on foot but was captured by civilians after police shot his leg. The female passenger fled the scene but was later detained and released without charge. Authorities recovered spent .22-caliber casings at the scene that matched the recovered handgun. Cook County prosecutors charged Emonte Morgan with first-degree murder of a peace officer, two counts of attempted murder of officers, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. Eric Morgan was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use by a felon, and obstruction of justice. Prosecutors noted that Eric Morgan, a convicted felon, was barred from buying firearms, prompting related federal charges: 40-year-old Jamel Danzy pleaded guilty to illegally purchasing the Glock used in the shooting and received a 30-month prison term in December 2022. In September 2021 a grand jury indicted Emonte Morgan on 85 counts in connection with the shooting. A jury found him guilty in March 2024 of French’s murder and the attempted murder of the other officers, and in September 2024 he was sentenced to two concurrent life terms without parole. Eric Morgan pleaded guilty in October 2023 to the weapons and obstruction charges and received a seven-year prison sentence. No charges were filed against the woman in the vehicle. Authorities reported that Eric Morgan’s prior felony conviction forced the straw purchase, and no prior convictions were documented for Emonte Morgan. Body-cam Captures Deadly Shootout That Killed Baldwin Park Police Officer Baldwin Park, California – On May 31, 2025, at approximately 7:12 p.m., Baldwin Park Police responded to reports of gunfire and a person down in the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue. The call involved a shooting where 22-year-old Eduardo Roberto Medina-Berumen allegedly fatally shot 43-year-old Darius Wong, a father of two, who had just parked his car nearby and was walking to a family gathering. Wong was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound in the front yard. When the first two officers arrived, the suspect immediately opened fire with a rifle. One officer was wounded (bullets struck his patrol vehicle), and both took cover. Officer Samuel “Sam” Riveros, 35, a 9-year veteran, SWAT team member, and field training officer, responded to assist. He ran toward the gunfire to aid fellow officers and protect the community, but was shot in the head. Riveros was transported to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The second officer was treated and released from the hospital. Officers returned fire, striking and apprehending the suspect, who was hospitalized in stable condition. Investigators recovered a rifle and about 60 spent shell casings. Man Killed After Pointing Gun at Jacksonville Officer in Apparent Su*c*de-by-Cop Incident Jacksonville, Florida - The incident resulted in the death of 49-year-old Michael Krause. Krause had a prior criminal history that included Domestic Battery, Driving Under the Influence, Possession of a Controlled Substance Without a Prescription, Petty Theft, and Discharging a Firearm in Public. Had Krause survived his injuries, he would have been arrested for multiple counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. At 9:16 a.m., Krause entered a convenience store on Bowden Road. Five minutes later, he pulled out an apparent handgun and pointed it at the store clerk. Krause demanded that the clerk call the police, stating that he wanted to die and wanted the police to kill him. The customers inside the store quickly left, and the clerk called for police assistance. While still inside the store, Krause threatened that he was going to come out shooting. Officers arrived on scene moments after receiving the call and took tactical positions around the store. At 9:30 a.m., Krause exited the store and began moving quickly toward Officer Cascante with his right arm outstretched in front of his body and his weapon pointed at the officer. Newly Released Video Reveals Moments Before LAPD Officer Shot Dog Jameson Shop Police Incidents Amazon Store: Canoga Park, California — On June 13, 2026, at around 8:55 p.m., Topanga Patrol Division police officers responded to a radio call for a “Screaming Woman” inside of an apartment unit, located in the 7500 block of Jordan Avenue. The officers met with the person reporting (PR) who directed the officers to the apartment unit. The officers contacted the resident in the apartment unit; while speaking with the resident, a large dog was by her side barking at the officers. The officers asked her to secure the dog, and the resident closed her door momentarily. She re-opened the door, and the dog exited the apartment. Once outside of the apartment, the dog charged at one of the officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS).
