Ace is coming home!!! Our K9 hero Ace was shot & critically injured protecting deputies and our community on Thursday nightโฆโฆitโs Sunday now, and heโs coming home. The bad guy who shot Ace was eliminated by his handler and two other deputies at the scene. Aceโs life was saved through the incredible work of a whole lot of people: his loyal partner, Deputy Natalie Oestreich, who quickly attended to his wounds & carried him to safety; the amazing staff and Dr. Aguayo at Parkway Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Lakeland who stopped his bleeding & stabilized him; the outstanding Tampa General Hospital @ Aeromed crew who got him quickly & safely to the amazing Veterinary Medical Center at Lakewood Ranch, where Dr. Diaz performed the several-hour-long surgery to amputate Aceโs left front leg. Upon waking from the anesthesia, Ace attempted to walk out of there. He has not been deterred since. In fact he outran the camera attempting to film his release this afternoon! We would like to thank the following agencies for accompanying us to pick up Ace today and give him a big โwelcome home!โ City of Haines City PD LakelandPD Winter Haven PD, HCSO Manatee Sheriff, Manatee Fire Rescue, Dr. Kerry Jackson from Polk County Animal Control, & of course our entire K9 Unit. Today was Aceโs first trip back to the SOC since being shot in the line of duty. The 10th Judicial Circuit Officer-Involved Deadly Incident Task Force is investigating an officer involved shooting on Rushing Road in Lakeland. A Polk County Sheriff's Office K9 was shot and injured and is being treated. All deputies are safe. The armed suspect is deceased. Sheriff Judd provided details at the scene. The suspect was identified as 27 year old Angel Bowers. K9 Ace is the injured K9. His handler is Deputy Sheriff Oestreich (pronounced A-strike).

These suspects Polk'ed around and found out -- we don't tolerate theft here. On Friday, June 26, 2026, PCSO deputies arrested 12 adults and 3 juveniles who were stealing food and drinks at the Davenport Wawa located on Old Lake Wilson Road; all of the suspects have been staying in an AirBNB visiting Polk from other counties in Florida. A 16th suspect was arrested during the investigation for interfering with deputies while they were detaining the theft suspects. Store employees contacted the Sheriff's Office after observing the suspects walking around the store, concealing bottled drinks and some food within their clothes. The group of people appeared to all know each other, and arrived at the store in three separate vehicles - a BMW, a Tesla, and a Honda Accord. The suspects, a mix of young adults and juveniles, were taking turns going into and out of the store during a 15-minute time span, some of them eating and drinking the items that they stole.
