London relies on Underground staff for £50m a day of economic activity. But those same workers are being rostered into exhaustion. RMT members assist passengers every day. They don't want to inconvenience you but fatigue and understaffing are a dangerous mix.

There's been lots of chatter in the mainstream media, and from certain MPs, in the last few days about trade unions. So, here's a reminder of exactly why working people need a voice. #JoinAUnion

Last night the Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill passed its Third Reading in the Commons, turning a page on the 30-year failed experiment of rail privatisation. RMT welcomes this historic first step in building an integrated publicly owned railway.

In the Transport Committee this morning, Steve Montgomery from the Rail Delivery Group confirmed RMT figure of £318 million for the cost to the taxpayer of indemnifying the TOCs and @BenPBradshaw pointed out that could have been used to fund pay rises for staff.

“It’s not hate, it’s not division. We don’t want to be storming people’s hotels where they’re trying to get respite, we want to be encouraging those people into our communities and making them feel part of it.”

Last year, a Channel 4 documentary analysed the costs of the privatised railway versus the old British Rail, nationalised, model. The results may surprise many who have been told for the last 30 years that privatisation is the panacea for all ills!
