Cancer sucks. But what got me most is how high this patient’s spirit is and how she can still find a way to joke while going through the unthinkable. This patient lost her upper jaw and the roof of her mouth due to cancer. She can’t eat or drink without it coming through her nose. She can’t even speak without tissues to create pressure. Others told her nothing could be done or simply turned her away. With ORCAA and the Smile Back Foundation, we’re proving otherwise. Dr. Simon Oh and clinicians from around the world are taking bone and skin from her leg to reconstruct her mouth and jaw, and later her nose. This is what it means to make the impossible, possible.
