After 5 days of farmers, hauliers and contractors shutting down Whitegate refinery, the ports and half the roads into Dublin, Micheál Martin announced a pathetic €505 million package today. Ten cent off petrol and diesel until July. A kick in the groin token 2.4 cent on green diesel. The carbon tax hike delayed until the October Budget. Some targeted scraps for the lifeblood of Ireland they’ve been hammering. An insulting bandaid if you can even call it a bandaid on a wound they helped manufacture, while the EU’s net-zero scam mandates and the 60% tax take on every litre at the pump stay untouched. They called the blockades “national sabotage” and sent in the Garda public order (assault) units to harrass and beat back lawful protestors. This Micheál Martin impression is sadly very true. The staged concern, the handful of coins waved around like it’s manna from heaven, the middle finger to the people actually paying the bills is art imitating the cynical contempt Martin has for the Irish. The Irish people didn’t ask for charity. They asked for a government that puts Irish families, Irish farms and Irish businesses first instead of kneeling in Brussels. Diesel jumped 30% in weeks. Home heating oil nearly 70%. Taxes were already crushing before the latest global spike. The same ministers who backed sanctions and green levies that made this inevitable suddenly discovered heavy handed “intensive engagement” when the tractors wouldn’t move. Credit to every man and woman who held the line. You reminded Leinster House who actually keeps this country moving. But don’t let the pressure drop now that the cameras are off. These measures are tokenism damage control, not a change of direction. The EU Orwellian agenda stays. The carbon ponzi stays. The betrayal of ordinary people stays unless we keep the heat on. The Irish have never been good at staying quiet when backs are against the wall. This week proved it again. Hold the line. Demand better.
