One of the reasons I started RÈBÈLs RÄIDÈRs wasn’t just because I had a grudge against $500 plate carriers. My dad once told me about his experience during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. At the time, he didn’t have much money. What he had was an Ithaca Model 37 shotgun and a 1911 that had originally been pieced together from a .22 conversion and eventually converted back to .45. His gear was basically whatever nylon he could afford from the local surplus store. Because the money wasn’t going toward Gucci tactical gear. It was going toward putting me in diapers and putting my sister through school. I was a baby during the riots, so there isn’t much of that experience I can personally recreate. But that story always stuck with me. There are a lot of people like my dad. Normal people with families, bills, jobs and responsibilities who still want dependable equipment but don’t have thousands of dollars lying around because some Special Operations sniper wore a particular plate carrier somewhere once.
