In 1991, Fresno State & SJSU met for the final time as Big West opponents. The Dogs were headed to the WAC in 1992, while the Spartans wouldn’t make the move for a few more years. A young Greg Papa and the late, great Jack Snow were on the call for the only college matchup between Trent Dilfer and Jeff Garcia. Senior Mark Barsotti was sidelined with a broken leg, opening the door for Dilfer, while Garcia had stepped in for injured SJSU starter Matt Veatch. The Dogs won a thriller, 31–28. Dilfer threw for 253 yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 33-yard run. Ron Rivers and Lorenzo Neal each rushed for over 100 yards on the night.
