Here’s the situation: There was a bipartisan deal to stop a government shutdown. But now, shadow President Elon Musk is calling the shots and Mike Johnson, Trump, and Republicans are falling in line. It’s clear who’s in charge.

Nurul Amin Shah Alam, a nearly blind refugee, was found dead after Border Patrol abandoned him miles away from his home and without notifying his family or attorney. This is absolutely horrifying — and completely preventable. There must be a full investigation immediately.

Trans kids aren’t raising your rent, making your groceries more expensive, or taking away your health care. Republicans are doing that, all while giving billionaires a tax cut.

Rümeysa Öztürk did not do anything violent. She does not pose any sort of national security threat to America’s interests. She wrote an op-ed — that’s literally it.

My thoughts on Elon Musk becoming the world’s first trillionaire.

It took me 17 years and an alphabet soup of visas to become a U.S. citizen. And in Congress, I’ll continue working to protect and expand legal pathways to citizenship, including for TPS holders.

Enrique is a TPS holder who has been legally living and working in the United States for over 13 years. If his TPS is terminated, he could be deported to unsafe conditions immediately — a limbo that millions are living with under Trump.

Being undocumented is NOT a crime. And despite the endless stream of xenophobic and racist rhetoric from Trump and Republicans, the vast majority of immigrants — both documented and undocumented — contribute to America in more ways than we could imagine.

23 people have died in immigration detention this year under the Trump administration, and ICE seems to be lying about the circumstances. They told Congress that Chaofeng Ge died by suicide, but he was found with his hands and feet tied. That simply doesn’t add up.

$1 a day. That’s what immigrants make while in government-contracted private detention centers. Why is the pay so low? Because corporations are profiting off of cruelty and Trump’s mass kidnapping and disappearing campaign. I have a bill to stop this. Let’s pass it.

Today, I spent almost 4 hours at the Department of Justice to once again look through the unredacted Epstein files. It is very clear that there is evidence here that needs to be investigated. I will not stop demanding accountability.

My Trans Bill of Rights protects the freedom for all trans people to live as their full, authentic selves. It’s time to get this passed!

50 people have died in detention since Trump returned to office. And tens of thousands more are languishing in these facilities each night, living under horrific conditions and medical neglect. We cannot allow another cent to go to these for profit, immigration prisons.

Every single resident of a community should be counted in the census so that everyone in that community — including U.S. citizens — have the resources they need. It’s that simple.

The majority of the American people want universal health care. Under Medicare for All, you get a government-issued insurance card at birth that you can use your entire life. This way, we can actually cut down on costs and focus on preventive care.

Has there ever been legislation introduced in the US to adopt Sharia law? No. Does Sharia law require Muslims to violate US laws? No. Are there any US courts that follow Sharia law? No. Despite all this, Republicans held another hearing to promote their islamophobia. Disgusting.

Today, I voted NO on categorically banning transgender girls from school sports. How do you verify “reproductive biology?” By subjecting every high school girl to examinations? I don’t think so. This invasive legislation harms ALL girls.

I just got back from Cuba, where I visited a maternity ward with premature babies whose lives depend on incubators and ventilators — equipment that is at risk with energy shortages. The U.S. is effectively bombing Cuba's entire energy infrastructure. We must stop this cruelty.

Refugees come to this country fleeing danger and persecution, and working to protect them has been a bipartisan issue for decades. Yet, under Trump, it has become nearly impossible for refugees to come here. It’s shortsighted and means people will die.

Trump isn’t going after the “worst of the worst” — he’s going after all immigrants. And we must be clear eyed about this — he’s using immigrants as a testing ground for stripping Constitutional protections for ALL of us.

Kids should be playing with their friends, learning at school, and going home to see their families. No child should be ripped away from their family, held in detention. Any country that detains children has lost its moral compass.

I went to immigration court in Seattle to observe the kids docket. These children, some as young as three years old, are expected to understand complex legal processes and represent themselves in court. That’s not due process.

Democrats are in DC, ready to negotiate and make a deal that cancels Trump and Republicans’ cuts, lowers costs, and saves health care for the American people. But Mike Johnson chose to send House Republicans home. Republicans are shutting the government down.

As one of the few naturalized citizens to serve in Congress, it is difficult to constantly listen to the anti-immigrant rhetoric coming from Republicans. The reality is that immigrants contribute so much to our communities. I'm grateful to everyone who understands that.
