I went to the Smithsonian bookstore on the 250th anniversary of our nation. In there, I could not find Common Sense. In the Kids section, I did find a children’s book with illustrations of one young man being aroused watching another shower. How does that help promote and teach America’s history?

The surveillance state wasn't built in a day. It was built piece by piece, every time we decided to look the other way. The upcoming FISA reauthorization gives Congress the opportunity to restore civil liberty protections — warrant requirements, prohibition of buying data of American citizen off the market, and a permanent CBDC ban.

The sleepy Senate had hoped to send us a FISA extension with no changes that would be passed by UC to an empty House chamber. Today, we forced a vote on the Senate’s “clean” FISA extension that ignored our House bill that included a ban on a CBDC — I voted No. And so, even in our “loss,” the battle is not over, and we are forcing the fight in the right direction. We now have 45 days to continue to work for 1) a permanent ban on a Central Bank Digital Currency, 2) FISA warrant protections, and 3) the 4th Amendment not-for-sale protections (to stop the mass-purchasing of your data by intel agencies). And with the extra time, we should open up the FISA discussion beyond 702 to include reforms to Title 1 (where much of the previous bad actions have occurred).

It’s ironic that at today’s DOGE Subcommittee hearing, NPR and PBS said they need taxpayer funding to survive but also claimed those funds are too small to impact reporting. Which is it? Either way, taxpayers shouldn't be funding it.

Our Schools are failing our kids. The Dept. of Education keeps getting more money, yet student performance is flat or declining. Meanwhile, administrative jobs are growing, and fewer teachers are in the classroom. Change needs to be made.
