Months covering protests I have seen tactics from democrats that are pure hypocrisy. This was a Washington DC protest in November called ‘Resist the regime’ protest. Clark bashed him in the head with an ax; Carnes slit his throat while he was still breathing. Carnes was convicted of murder in October 2009. Clark was convicted in early 2010. Both received life sentences. Under Senate Bill 1008 signed by Gov. Kate Brown in 2019 Carnes was released in December 2023 and Clark was paroled in January 2026. Convicted juvenile murderer Martin Covarrubias-Rivera (16 at the time of his 2011 murder conviction) was also released early under the same law. SB 1008 dismantled tough Measure 11 accountability for serious juvenile offenders and replaced it with early-release pathways. It is not protecting Oregon communities it is returning convicted killers to our streets. Former Gov. Kate Brown and current Gov. Tina Kotek have stayed silent on these releases. Kotek has done nothing to repeal or fix this dangerous bill. Her inaction puts politics over public safety while families in Douglas County and across Oregon pay the price.
