Toronto needs to have an uncomfortable conversation about two-tier policing. When people attend Palestinian demonstrations, Canadians are increasingly asking a simple question: Are the same laws being enforced consistently, regardless of who is protesting? If assault, intimidation, threats, obstruction or other Criminal Code offences occur, the law should not depend on the political cause, identity or ideology of the people involved. I support the right to peaceful protest. But peaceful protest does not mean a free pass to break the law. What is deeply disheartening for many Canadians is watching situations where they believe the Criminal Code is not being enforced consistently. That erodes public trust—and once Canadians stop believing that the law applies equally to everyone, the damage goes far beyond one protest or one political movement. We need transparency. We need accountability. And above all, one standard of law enforcement for everyone. No exceptions. No political favourites. One Canada. One law. Equal protection.
