A jihadi from al-Sharaa’s forces killed a #YPJ fighter yesterday, cut off her braid, and carried it as a sign of “victory” over Kurdish women who courageously led the fight against #ISIS, one of the most dangerous and brutal forces in the world. Today, Kurdish women responded by braiding one another’s hair and chanting, “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî.” This is not merely a symbolic gesture, but a demonstration that your brutality will only unite us further. The more you attempt to kill us, the more we resist, and resistance will prevail. Because this resistance is for life, not death, as embodied by Zilan Cûdî, the YPJ fighter who was killed while battling ISIS.

Rojavan women are leading one of the most radical feminist movements, successfully organizing and mobilizing a significant proportion of the female population in the region. This movement transcends artificial divisions of age, class, ethnicity, religion, and language. Women are now active participants in all spheres of life, engaging in self-defense, producing knowledge, arts, crafts, and shaping life itself. These women advocate for an alternative based on the principles of direct democracy, an ecological society, and the liberation of women. They present a revolutionary universalism with the potential to overcome domination and hierarchy. Rojavan women serve as an inspiration, their dedication and determination providing hope as we envision a better world for all. A video report by The Amargi from Qamishli reveals a heartbreaking story of a young Kurdish woman who has experienced forced internal displacement four times, from Afrin to Aleppo, then to Tabqa, and now to Qamishli. She cries that she missed the chance to study and that she has lost her future. The Kurdish people only demand their basic rights; they ask for democracy, gender equality, and peaceful coexistence. Is this too hard for the world to realize?
