I am Iranian. Let me tell you what is truly heartbreaking: The IRGC has slaughtered tens of thousands of innocent Iranians, our brothers, sisters, children, and not a single one of those soccer players opened their mouths. The only one who dared speak up for the people, Sardar Azmoun, got banned from the World Cup on some bullsh*t excuse about a photo with a UAE Sheikh. The rest of the team? They didn’t even flinch. Not one word. Worse, some of them actively stood with the regime and the Supreme Leader, the same butcher who drowned Iran's streets in blood. Team captain Mehdi Taremi has been a vocal, proud supporter of the IRGC and Khamenei, just scroll through his social media, it’s all there. Shoja Khalilzadeh proudly told Iranian media he’d dedicate his goals to the Supreme Leader, not to the people being massacred, but to the man ordering the killings. There’s video of Shoja and Jalal Hosseini chilling in their car, happily singing “Salute Commander,” that disgusting propaganda anthem made for Khamenei. When asked about the oppression back home, Ramin Rezaeian coldly shrugged it off as “an internal matter.” Don’t give me that “they were forced” bullsh*t. Silence under threat? Maybe. But no one forces you to publicly suck up to the regime like these clowns did. No one puts a gun to your head and makes you sing praises to a mass murderer. So no, there’s nothing heartbreaking about their elimination. That team represents anything but the people of Iran. Good riddance. Fly home, bitches.

I listened to Erika Kirk’s full speech at the memorial, and I want to share a few thoughts that came to me while live streaming the event. This is not political. First, I should say that I grew up as a Muslim in a Muslim country. I don’t know enough about Christianity to say if what I witnessed is rooted in faith or culture. But what struck me most was how, even though death is heavy and this was by nature a sad occasion, the entire event carried a celebratory spirit that honored life. That contrast hit me deeply. In Islam, even though we believe that good people go to heaven, the relationship with God is taught through fear. Funerals are overwhelmingly sad, often filled with warnings of the terrifying first night in the grave. Growing up hearing that, and then witnessing people celebrate life, speak of God’s love, and remember someone through the impact he had on others; it felt so refreshing, so positive. Second, I was profoundly moved by Erika Kirk’s words. I cannot fathom the strength it takes to stand and deliver such a meaningful speech after losing the love of your life. But even more than that, the grace it takes to forgive the very person who destroyed your world. I cannot imagine myself standing on a stage, sending love to those who cheered your husband’s murder, or inviting others to spread God’s love in response because, as she said, “we do not respond to hate with hate.” That is powerful beyond words. Again, I am ignorant when it comes to Christianity, but if this is what it truly embodies, then I am envious of those who get to experience that feeling.

Dave Chappelle ended his show suggesting we are living in a conspiracy, admitting he does not even know what it is while still hinting that Israel is somehow at the center of it: “ I can not let these n**** do me like Charlie Kirk or worse than that… what if they trick me up somehow, co-opt me then they make me say the things they want me to say…” He closed by saying: “ So just in case we need a code… It gotta be something that I can say so that if I say it you know these n**** got me… and don’t listen to nothing that I say after those words… something that I would never say… oh I know what the code is: I stand with Israel.”

As someone with a Muslim background, I became curious to learn about the history of Jewish people to understand for what crime in the world they deserved to be burnt alive during WWII only to learn that it was for the crime of existence. In addition to being expelled, forced to live in ghetto and being second class citizens, I learned that WWII was one of the MANY instances in which the Jewish population was the target of large-scale hate that led to their mass killings. If Israel did not exist, if it was not for the power of Israel in the region, Jewish people would've been prosecuted and slaughtered to this day. While many wars and tragedies have been happening in the world, It's disgusting and ignorant to compare and equivalent anything with the genocide of Jewish people during WII. It's shameful to hear the same rhetoric that led to many many massacres against Jewish people today in 2023. I refuse to stay silent in the face of anti-Semitism.
