From my research, the biggest driver of clubhead speed is the average force applied along the hand path. When I first started working with Matt Fitzpatrick, this was a key area I wanted to improve—but explaining it in biomechanics terms would have been suboptimal. So I translated it. Draw Early. Fade Late. It’s a simple feel that captures how force should be applied throughout the swing—and it’s been a big piece of unlocking speed for many golfers.

What do you know about the relationship between shaft flex and clubhead speed? Golfers probably spend more time getting fit for the optimal driver shaft flex, than any other club parameter. This makes sense since shaft flex can have a large systematic influence on the launch angle and spin numbers that dictate the flight of the ball. Shaft flex can also dominate how a driver feels, which can instill confidence in your swing. The relationship between shaft flex and clubhead speed is a tougher nut for fitters to crack. Watch this video to learn why.
