The poisoning of the public discourse on Muslims, migrants and refugees has been consistent and deliberate. An anti Muslim agenda has been pursued by some in politics , the media and some think tanks and we have to be brave enough to call it out. They have created the climate that we now see play out in our towns and cities and they are as much to blame as the thugs on the street.

Disturbing mealy mouthed evasive responses by Oliver this morning. A clear display that anti Muslim racism is tolerated within Conservatives that Muslims are not just fair game but convenient electoral campaign fodder. When we can’t even call out the obvious, when it’s so blatant and can’t find the words to condemn we have lost all authority on being anti racist. No ifs no buts no caveats - we rightly don’t allow Labour to acquiesce in antisemitism why do we think we can on Islamophobia We must end this hierarchy of racism and stop the hypocrisy

It’s time to call out and clamp down on those that fund, initiate and spread anti Muslim tropes, racism and division. This network of foreign and domestic funders are supporting groups, think tanks, influencers and media outlets to sow division, create hatred and divide our country. When the public discourse is deliberately poisoned it’s inevitable that we will see the kind of attacks we tragically saw on the streets of Edinburgh House of Lords
