In the context of a polarised political landscape, it is important that Irish MEPs vote for Ursula von der Leyen as Commission President. Europe needs stability! By not voting for her, Irish MEPs, particularly those in the Renew Group, risk jeopardising Ireland’s chances at getting a good portfolio in the European Commission.

Back here again- like clock work! This weekend we'll all have to switch our clocks for reasons which are outdated and have been scientifically disproven. Delighted to hear Apostolos Tzitzikostas say that he has been engaging closely on this topic with Member States and will be undertaking further study to support future decision making on ending the seasonal clock change. However, the issue has been put on the long finger for long enough, and we need to see the results of this study soon if we can hope to not be back here again next year.

On Thursday, the Fine Gael delegation will be rejecting the motion of censure and supporting the continuation of the current Commission, including Irish Commissioner Micheal McGrath. The motion has been tabled by right wing and far-right members of the Parliament in a bid to destabilise the EU for political gain. We urge all Irish MEPs to reject the motion.

We must see in-car FM radio protected by the EU's digital Networks Act. I am calling for this in order to protect our culture, access to impartial journalism, and societal resilience. Irish radio is some of the best on the world, and is an important part of our social fabric. Many of us get our news from it, and in a time of algorithms and polarisation, the unbiased and thorough journalism is key to our democracy. However FM radio also plays a major role in our societal resilience in the case of Internet outages. During storms, blackouts, or hybrid attacks, people can rely on their car radio to receive important updates about vital services. The EU Digital Networks Act must recognise the importance of in-car radio and ensure that every car driven in Europe contains one, so that we can stay connected and safe.

It is a true honor and a privilege to be the first MEP elected, a special moment surrounded by my family and supporters. I would like to thank each and every person who gave me their vote, as well as everyone who came out and helped canvas, handed leaflets or put up posters. I am incredibly grateful for the support shown, but now the real work begins and I will be going back to Brussels very shortly to deliver on promises made. Remember, you can count on Kelly!
