Excess mortality estimates from 2020 to 2023, using the Australian Bureau of Statistics Official Serfling model, reveal that 8,744 more Australians died in 2023 than would be expected from pre-pandemic mortality levels. No equivalent estimates using that methodology have been published for 2024 or 2025, and on 3 July 2026 the ABS introduced a further change, adopting a Generalised Additive Model (GAM) incorporating mortality data from COVID-affected years into its expected deaths baseline. I asked the ABS why. To hear more from me and stay up to date, signup to my email newsletter here:

During supplementary Senate estimates I asked Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett about the AFP’s new National Security Investigations Team. We are told that it is targeting threats to “social cohesion”, but Australians need comfort that this won’t be used to monitor Australians speaking out about government policy. I asked what independent oversight, transparency and accountability will keep dissent from being treated as a threat. To hear more from me and stay up to date, signup to my email newsletter here:

Today I am introducing the Broadcasting Services Amendment (Register of Media Interests) Bill 2026. If passed the Bill would require journalists and others inside the media to publicly disclose what they earn, any gifts they receive and the origin of same. If the news media in this country are as influential as we are told, then Australians deserve to know this information.

Tomorrow in the Senate, my “No Jab No Pay” Repeal Bill finally gets to a vote. If passed it would restore the basic right of parents to object to some or all of the childhood vaccination schedule for personal, religious, medical or philosophical reasons without the government cutting off Child Care Subsidy and Family Tax Benefit. Financial coercion is not consent. It’s time to end this policy and put decision-making back where it belongs, with Australian families. Thanks to Senator Babet for using his time in the chamber to move the Bill. To hear more from me and stay up to date, signup to my email newsletter here:

Based With Senator Alex Antic - Episode 44 – Michael Shellenberger Michael Shellenberger – Digital Duty of Care Michael Shellenberger is a leading investigative journalist well known for his work on the Twitter Files. He is the founder and president of Civilization Works, a nonprofit that incubates ideas, leaders, and movements, and cofounder of the California Peace Coalition. Michael is a fierce advocate for freedom of speech, and in 2024 he campaigned extensively against the Labor Government’s proposed “Mis and Dis Information” laws. His work played a major role in ensuring those proposed laws were never introduced into the Parliament. A previous guest on Based Podcast, on this episode Senator Antic and Michael discuss the serious and frightening reality of the Government’s dystopian “Digital Duty of Care” Bill, the state of freedom of speech online both in Australia and around the world, and the dwindling support for the near defunct “climate change” scare narrative.

This morning the Senate passed the Fair Work Amendment (Baby Priya’s) Bill 2025 which provides that employers must pay parental leave to employees who suffer the tragedy of a stillbirth. I moved an amendment to the Bill which would have prevented intentional terminations of pregnancy potentially being treated as stillbirths for the purposes of the Fair Work Act, including paid parental leave provisions which this Bill creates. Unfortunately, my amendment was defeated, and the Bill passed. Thank you to the following Senators who supported my amendment: Senator Leah Blyth Senator Sarah Henderson Malcolm Roberts 🇦🇺 Senator Babet Senator Jessica Collins Jacinta Nampijinpa Senator Tyron Whitten Senator Sean Bell

Unfortunately, this morning my "No Jab No Pay" Repeal Bill was voted down by the Senate with only Senators Pauline Hanson 🇦🇺, Malcolm Roberts 🇦🇺, Senator Whitten, Senator Babet, Senator Sean Bell and myself voting in support. It’s my view that it is fundamentally wrong to tie childcare payments to vaccination status. Australian parents are entitled to object on medical or other grounds. Thanks to Senator Ralph Babet for using his private Senator’s time on this important Bill. To hear more from me and stay up to date, signup to my email newsletter here:

Australians are living through a quiet but profound shift. Piece by piece, under soft language of “safety,” “convenience,” “protecting the children,” and “national security,” the architecture of a surveillance state is being constructed. Age-verification mandates, facial recognition in retail and public spaces, AI-powered scanning of social media and chats, expanded intelligence powers, smart-city monitoring and massive AI data centres are not isolated tools. Combined with digital identity and the prospect of programmable money, they form an integrated control system right in front of our eyes.

Australians are walking away from mainstream media in growing numbers and now Labor is directing $153.5 million of taxpayers’ money into Australia’s media industry including major commercial media organisations. Some outlets are receiving $39,000 for every eligible journalist they employ! If the market is rejecting your product, why is the government stepping in to keep it afloat? The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Amendment Bill makes ASIO’s compulsory questioning powers broader and expands them with vague new grounds. I voted AGAINST the Bill. Extraordinary powers should never become ordinary. This afternoon the Australian Senate expanded the powers of the surveillance state.

The media has had a field day in recent weeks claiming Australia is in the middle of an escalating whooping cough (pertussis) outbreak with many outlets repeating the myth that Australia is currently experiencing the highest records of whooping cough since records began 30 years ago. Data from the National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System however shows that whooping cough notifications peaked in 2024 at around 57,000 cases and fell to approximately 25,000 in 2025, indicating the peak has already passed. Why is the public messaging continuing to frame whooping cough as an escalating outbreak when the data says the peak is behind us? Just as the pharmaceutical companies fire up their “get your flu shot” campaigns, suddenly two birds in Western Australia test positive for avian influenza. What timing! The same pattern every year, new scare, same solution, roll up your sleeve and take your shot to protect grandma (or something). Also from the “trust the science” brigade we learn that you should get your human flu shot to prevent a bird flu pandemic (or something). The previous four Australian ABS Provisional Mortality Statistics data releases reveal 15.1%, 16.0%, 17.0%, and 17.3% increases in excess deaths above the baseline average. Similar, if not worse, trends, are happening all over the western world. Clearly, something serious, I would say catastrophic, is occurring, yet strangely politicians and the censorship industrial complex are almost entirely unconcerned about investigating it. They don’t want you to know what is driving this, but we all know what is causing it. Watch as I speak in the Australian Senate about the tragic western trend of excess deaths.

In a few weeks, the Senate will vote on the ASIO Amendment Bill (No. 2)—and every Australian who values freedom under the law should be paying attention. This Bill doesn’t just extend extraordinary powers—it makes them permanent. Powers that were meant to expire by March 2027 would instead become ongoing. It expands compulsory questioning for adults and even minors, weakens safeguards, limits access to legal counsel, and lacks proper judicial oversight. These are not ordinary powers. They allow the state to compel answers under threat of penalty. That is a serious intrusion into personal liberty. Of course, national security matters—but it must never come at the unchecked expense of freedom. For these reasons, I will NOT be supporting this Bill. Labor is moving a new amendment today that gives the eSafety Commissioner more power to enforce the unnecessary under-16 social media ban. If passed it will let the eSafety Commissioner summons parties to answer questions regarding age compliance under oath and face jail or big fines if they refuse. Unsurprisingly I will not support it.

The Labor Government has released an exposure draft of its Online Safety Amendment (Digital Duty of Care) Bill 2026 and it’s much worse than I first thought. Australians now have platforms like X where they can speak without institutional gatekeepers and the political class of the left hates that. Instead of winning the argument, they are rewriting the rules of speech itself and calling it “safety.” This is not about protecting people. It is about controlling the conversation. During last night’s Senate hearing into our COVID 19 Vaccine Discrimination Bill representatives from Moderna couldn’t provide the numbers of serious adverse reactions from their COVID mRNA injection. I was so stunned I literally dropped my pen! Watch below:
