PV became PM 27 years after Nehru's death and was separated from him by no less than 8 Prime Ministers, including 3 non-Congress PMs and 6 non-Nehru family PMs. Why didn't they discontinue this so-called "rich people's socialism"? What economy did Nehru destroy? India had a 12% literacy rate and a life expectancy of 35. It had no machine-tool manufacturing plant capable of producing a precision lathe, milling machine, or cylindrical grinder from scratch. PV himself said his policies were a continuation of the Nehruvian legacy. China had the Mao revolution, which killed 3–6 crore people, yet its economy remained much the same until the 1980s, with India briefly overtaking China in 1987. We built nukes, tested them, integrated all the princely states, Goa, and NEFA, achieved the Green and White Revolutions, established PSUs, won wars, and did a thousand other things that wouldn't have been possible if we had been in Uncle Sam's shackles. Any option besides the London-educated Nehru were several times more socialist(Bose/JP/Lohia/even Ambedkar Proposed state ownership of key industries and agriculture). Protectionism was meant to protect Indian industries. You all talk as if we're doing wonders in manufacturing now. We're simply benefiting from the institutions built back then while still importing critical.

During Menon's tenure, India launched or expanded indigenous production of Avadi Tank, Shaktiman trucks, Avro cargo aircraft & HF-24 fighter aircraft. He also oversaw the procurement of Gnats, MiGs, and INS Vikrant, which later played key roles in India’s victories in the 1965 and 1971 wars against Pakistan. This was revival after Partition when about one-third of the British Indian Army personnel went to Pakistan, and India also lost military infrastructure located in territories that became Pakistan. Menon’s role in supporting Egypt during the Suez Crisis against the Anglo-French-Israeli intervention strengthened his ties with Gamal Abdel Nasser, who later supported India by blocking Portuguese warships in 1961 while Liberation of Goa. His 8-hour marathon speech on Kashmir against Anglo-Saxon powers who wanted a Palestine-like solution in the Subcontinent was impactful enough for him to be called “India’s Rasputin” by hostile Pakistani and Western diplomats. Menon establish India League in 1928, advocating for Indian independence even before the INC’s Purna Swaraj Declaration. He built links with the Labour Party and British elites, contributing to the campaign for India’s freedom in Britain. His contribution was a distinct third stream alongside the revolutionary, nationalist, and INC-led movements. When Labour came to power, it ultimately granted India independence. Another contribution ignorant Indians have forgotten.

During Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit’s presidency of the UN General Assembly, Eisenhower delivered his historic “Atoms for Peace” speech on 8 December 1953, with Pandit presiding. If Gobhi can make any “Nepo” product pull that off, it's based. But he can't. Her resignation from LS in a Year itself proves she was far more than your lots shallow understanding of “status”. Instead her being Nehru’s sister/Indira’s aunt itself worked against her in 1977 when she might’ve become President. She was 11 yrs younger than Nehru, had her own struggle & ideological stand. She was first jailed for a year in 1932 for one year. This is already Huge for a Women like a century ago. Nehru spent 9 years in about a dozen jails. He was jailed even when Kamala became terminally ill, BOSE himself once had to tend to her in hospital while Nehru remained imprisoned. His mother died barely a year later.
