🔥 Ride of the Day: Get ready to meet a true street-legal race car! This sinister, jet-black 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible from the Peter Fink collection is one of the rarest and most legendary machines of the muscle car era. It is one of only 80 Corvettes from 1968 equipped with the mythical RPO L88 package. The father of the Corvette, Zora Arkus-Duntov, designed the L88 option to secretly slip a factory-built race car into the hands of racing teams without breaking GM's corporate racing ban. Here is what makes the L88 an absolute monster: The Powerhouse: Under the hood is the L88 427 V8, featuring a massive solid lifter cam, aluminum heads, and an 850 CFM Holley carburetor. The Power: While Chevrolet sneaked it past executives with a laughable 430 horsepower rating, it actually cranked out over 500 horsepower. The Gearbox: It is packing the legendary M22 "Rock Crusher" 4-speed manual transmission. Race-Ready Chassis: The package included heavy-duty springs, improved shocks, heavier sway bars, and upgraded brakes. No Luxuries: To keep it on the track and off the street, you couldn't get it with air conditioning, power steering, or even a radio. Race Fuel Only: It came with a massive warning sticker on the center console explicitly stating the car required at least 103-octane gas. Because the L88 option cost twice as much as the 435-horsepower L71 427, it was a massive deterrent for everyday street buyers, making this black-on-black convertible an incredibly rare and valuable piece of automotive history.
