A school bus driver in Sumter County placed children in harm’s way by intentionally driving over a railroad crossing despite knowing a train was approaching. In response, I sent a letter to all superintendents so that this individual is never hired to work around students again. I also urged districts to reinforce with all staff that safeguarding students is a responsibility that must be upheld without exception.

Clay County School Board Member Robert Alvero posted discriminatory comments on social media. I am requiring him to appear before the State Board of Education at their meeting in January to explain this conduct. School Board Members have a responsibility to represent all students and families and uphold the professionalism due of an elected official. Thank you, Sen. Jennifer Bradley, for sharing this video and bringing this to my attention.

Mid-year Progress Monitoring results show impressive learning gains with English Language Arts up 10 points and Math up 18 points since the start of the school year. Compared to this same time last year, more than 50,000 additional students are now demonstrating mastery in ELA and nearly 20,000 more students in Math. Parents and teachers, it’s crunch time! Continue to work together and finish the school year strong, so every student is ready for the next grade level.

Ron DeSantis’ proposed 2026–2027 budget delivers record investments: - A historic $30.6 billion in funding for K-12 education ✅ - $9,406 in per student funding, an increase of nearly $300 per student, providing the highest amount in Florida’s history ✅ - A record $1.56 billion for public school teacher salary increases, an appropriation that did not exist before Governor DeSantis took office ✅ - New funding of $64 million for school hardening at Florida’s public colleges and universities ✅ - New investment of $6 million to establish Guardian programs at public higher education institutions ✅

I’m proud to share that our students are making great progress as evidenced by Florida’s first-in-the-nation progress monitoring assessment. PM1 results show improvements year-over-year with more students beginning the school year on grade level. Parents can now easily monitor their child’s academic progress and partner with teachers to support continued growth. I encourage families to take advantage of the Department of Education’s available resources to help their child continue to grow throughout the school year.

Today, I joined Attorney General James Uthmeier to announce the arrest of Kashaundra Knowles, an individual accused of taking teacher certification exams for unqualified candidates to enter the classroom. Thanks to our partnership with the Attorney General’s Office and U.S. Department of Education, this misconduct was identified and all who were involved will be held accountable. Florida continues to uphold the highest standards for its educators. Anything less is unacceptable.

I’m not surprised to see Google’s AI added Zohran Mamdani to its list of communist leaders that tax the rich—a list that includes Vladimir Lenin and Fidel Castro, who similarly implemented policies focused on taxing the wealthy to redistribute resources. Thanks to the leadership of Ron DeSantis, Florida’s History of Communism standards don’t hold back in describing the atrocities committed by these monsters, while encouraging students to explore the perils of centralized economic control.

This teacher’s comments were grossly immoral, reduced her effectiveness in the classroom, failed to protect the health, safety and welfare of students, and did not distinguish her personal views from that of a public educational institution. Accordingly, I am seeking a permanent revocation of this teacher’s license.
