🚨 HGV DRIVERS: Caught on your phone? Here is what happens next. 🚛👇 Think a mobile phone ticket is just a fine and points? If you are a professional driver, it is a fast track to losing your livelihood. When a commercial driver is caught using a hand-held phone on our roads, a dual-track process is instantly triggered: 1️⃣ The Immediate Police Penalty: The driver faces 6 penalty points on their licence and a £200 fine. If the case goes to court, professional drivers face a maximum fine of up to £2,500 (compared to £1,000 for standard car drivers). 2️⃣ Referral to the Traffic Commissioner: The conviction is automatically flagged to the Office of the Traffic Commissioner. The driver is then summoned to a formal Driver Conduct Hearing—a legal tribunal that reviews their fitness to hold a professional entitlement. 3️⃣ The 4-Week Minimum Suspension: The Senior Traffic Commissioner's guidelines are clear. For a first mobile phone offence in a commercial vehicle, the standard starting penalty is an immediate 4-week suspension of their HGV driving entitlement. Repeat offences can lead to a 16-to-26 week ban or total revocation. 4️⃣ The Operator Under Scrutiny: If the driver was using the phone to speak to their transport office or a client, the employer's company operator licence is also put at risk. Following on from yesterdays post, there were a lot of questions raised as to whether the cyclist had travelled over the stop line when the lights were red. As you can see from the downloaded cleartone, the lights were red when they crossed the stop line and then continued.

Rider of this illegaly modified electric bike rendering it a motorcycle merely pulled the throttle to move while followed by #SPCasualtyReduction officer. When stopped, found bike had a throttle, no chain, & the rider provided a positive #DrugWipe. Rider arrested & bike seized.

🚨 Repeated Lies, Multiple Forces, One Outcome: Conviction. 🚨 In February 2025, the driver of this Range Rover was caught using a mobile phone during OpTramline, here in Surrey. When stopped by officers, he handed over a driving licence and denied the offence. Faced with video evidence, his story quickly changed. Days later, a man named Mandeep Singh contacted Surrey Police claiming he had been the driver and had accidentally handed over someone else's licence. Conveniently, his own entitlement to drive in the UK had long expired. An investigation revealed this wasn't a one-off. Singh had used the same deception when stopped by officers in Hertfordshire. When Warwickshire Police stopped him again, the vehicle was seized and the game was finally up. Surrey officers gathered the evidence by working with officers across three forces. The driver of this Nissan was dawdling at 45-50mph in lane two of the M3 in Sunbury. When stopped by #VanguardRST officers, she said, "I thought it was OK, as the left lane is the slow lane". 🙄 A Traffic Offence Report for Driving Without Due Care and Attention was issued to the driver. ⚖️COURT RESULT⚖️ On 01/06/2024, during #OpsDownsway, this motorcyclist was observed by #VanguardRST on Reigate Road, Buckland crossing solid white lines on two occasions to overtake other cars, whilst in excess of the speed limit and then failing to notice the unmarked police car with blue flashing lights behind them, for a period of time. The rider was later found Guilty in court on the 24/03/2025, of driving at excess speed and without due care and attention, and issued 5 points and a £300 fine per offence, as well as £90 in costs and £240 in victim surcharge – Totalling 10 penalty points and £930! 🤦♂️ A quick lesson in how NOT to pay a parking fine. 👀🚫 This motorist in Guildford decided that waiting in stationary traffic was the right time to pay her parking fine on the phone.
